Series Finales

I agree with quite a few in this thread. I actually thought the Lost finale was pretty great, even if it did leave open a few massive plot threads.

I actually thought the Burn Notice finale was pretty terrible. Same for Dexter, but then everyone knows the Dexter finale sucked.

Breaking Bad had a fantastic finale. So did The Wire.

Also agree on the Extras finale being just about perfect. It was amazingly well done.

Is it even worth watching Dexter? I want to get into it, but I hear that it ended so horribly (the last season or two), that it kinda ruined the series.

Yes, at least for the first four seasons. The first four seasons are pretty excellent. The fifth and sixth get more flack than they probably deserve, but things definitely went downhill fast in the last season.

Exactly, first 4 seasons of Dexter can stack right up to the first 4 seasons of Breaking Bad. Its after season 4 and the writers that had wrote for it left that it all went down hill.

i'd rate ted mosby up there with the dorky ross from friends. 2 pathetic losers dating way above their pay grade.

Burn Notice was a guilty pleasure. Sucky acting, strained plot lines. I thought the finale was more interesting for who died, then who ended up together.

MASH anyone.
Thought Seinfeld was bad. It became a show about something.
MTM as I remember was pretty good.
Cheers I liked.
Newhart was classic.
NYPD Blue I liked.
Barney Miller was good.
Hill Street Blues was good.

Did not see mother, not that invested in it.

Gave this one a like just for the NYPD Blue reference. Loved that show.

I just finished my first LOST rewatch and I liked the ending even more on the second go around. And I loved it the first time, so that's saying something. "The End" is even in my top 5 LOST episodes overall.

I never saw a single episode of HIMYM so can't comment.

Also never saw Sopranos, Breaking Bad, or anything else popular on pay tv.

Okay that is out of the way...

I thought the Newhart finale was good. Hey Suzanne Pleshette is an SU grad ;)
Okay the wife loved Buffy so I was sucked in. Thought that was good. Girl power! She saved the world and now she can go shopping. ;)
Agree Raymond was kinda lame.

Annnnd, I am lame because that is all I can remember about TV finales.

Friends was great too. I saw someone also mentioned Friday Night Lights and that was great also. I miss both of those shows.

I got to catch up on two season finales tonight:

Parenthood: Awesome finale -- I know it wasn't a very popular show, but I loved the stories, I loved the issues the show dealt with, and I loved the way they wrapped it all up.

The Newsroom: What a pile of steaming of an ending. One thing that I hate is when a series has a single theme throughout every show and decides to completely change it for the last episode. What the was the garage jam band session? All the sudden everyone becomes a professional musician? Will offers to be Charlie's grandson's mentor after meeting him for two minutes? It was just bizarre. They had a formula that some people loved and some people hated it, which gave it its cult following, and they just decided to throw it away during the last episode... That's just not cool, Sorkin.

I thought the Parenthood finale was solid, but there were a few things that were just eye-rollingly dumb. Most notably Kristina pulling some magical non-profit that wants to franchise her charter schools out of her ass. I hate Kristina Braverman, by the way. She's worse than Lori Grimes in every way.

I thought she would be working for a non-profit to help to set up charters, not franchising Chambers Academy.
