Dom Starsia out at Virginia / Lars Tiffany in

Stunning. I wonder if they put out feelers, and everyone they were interested wasn't interested in them. :noidea:

I wonder if he'll tell them to take a hike...

Good question. No idea... haha

If Gait is making 700k at SU (including pay from camps, IMG, etc.), as has been reported (link), Johnny D has to be somewhere around that. I'd be shocked, if Bryant was paying Pressler north of 250k. Shocked. Have no idea what UVA was paying Starsia, but the guy had multiple championships, so probably a nice chunk of change.
I would think that Pressler settled with Duke for a hefty sum. Probably doesn't need the agravation.

Say what you will about Coyle and the way he left Syracuse. He at least was decisive on the move with Scott Shafer. Shafer had given 8 years to Syracuse with 3 as head coach. So he announced his firing and sent out a paragraph that a change in leadership was necessary at this time. He allowed him the chance to coach one more game. After the game Shafer was able to address the media. Maybe there is more about how Coyle handled the firings of the assistants that I don't know about. On the surface it seemed like a humane way to do it. Shafer had won a bowl game and only had one winning season. Starsia has won multiple national titles and dedicated twenty three years of his life to the school. He dealt with a major problem when one of his players murdered another student athlete. The school stuck behind him at that point. If you want to make a move make it. Don't send out an email and then retract your decision because people are upset about it. It looks like amateur hour in Charlottesville.

Please. Don't insult The Amateur Hour.

The story we're getting now is that it wasn't the MLax alums who made this happen, per one of the MLax alums who is a member of the network that was the source of all the e-mails. They're apparently divided as much as everyone else is. Matt Ward on today's broadcast said that the AD received 1200 e-mails in support of Dom. Supposedly non-MLax alums pressured the school administration to step in because the situation came across to them like the attempted ouster of the President did. The school's administration apparently felt that recruiting would suffer for at least 5 years following the Love murder, so they wrote off what would happen in those 5 years (next year would be Year 6). Recruiting is now starting to pick back up again as we had the top-rated recruit of last year (who finished his 1st year this year) and we're supposed to be in line for the top-rated recruits of the next 2 years.

This is all very disheartening. The biggest argument against keeping the present staff was "How will the future if they remain be different from what is happening right now?" I guess that question is moot now.

Thanks for sharing. Guess Dom will be around for at least another year.

So he's out now? Just saw a tweet about it? Thought he got a 3 year deal??

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – University of Virginia director of athletics Craig Littlepage announced today that a change in leadership of the men’s lacrosse program will be made and a national search to replace head coach Dom Starsia is underway. Starsia, who has won the most games in Division I men’s lacrosse history, was the head coach at UVA for 24 seasons and his squads won four NCAA championships and made 13 Final Four appearances. He was inducted into the National Lacrosse Hall of Fame in 2008, has won more games than any other men’s lacrosse coach in Atlantic Coast Conference history (274) and he guided the Cavaliers to six ACC titles.

Talk about a roller coaster. Never a good look for an administration to leave a coach out there like that.

Really embarrassing for Littlepage. No need to rehash what has been said initially. Dom won a lot at Virginia and deserved to go out with some dignity. If they blamed him for the culture which may have enabled a murderer than they should have fired him at that point. What a joke.

I wonder who will take over. Like most teams thsee days all of th e coaches have flaws in their resumes.

Maybe they would go for Tillman but man he has built a good squad at Maryland. He has no titles.

Corrigan has not taken the next step with ND. They got blown out against UNC.

Shay has not proven he can win in the post season either. Outside of his ivy league play he hasn't taken Yale to the final four.

Virginia lacrosse has been about athleticism and playing a beautiful game (and always tenacious on ground balls.) Corrigan, and Tillman even more so, are control freaks. Their teams are tedious, prosaic. I don't see how Virginia lacrosse fans would tolerate either of them. I think they would go after Tiffany.

I am quite concerned given who is named the next coach at UVA, that the absolute best game of the year, UVA/Cuse, due to its free flowing style, will be lost. Over 15 years or so each games against UVA has been a 1 or two goal affair. Each has generated tons of scoring and open field play. If they bring Corrigan in, that style is gone, and I for one am totally bummed. Best lax viewing yearly. Great athletes, open field, refs mostly let the kids play.

Corrigan is the = of their hoops coach, in ruining the fun of the game, but winning, so everyone says its ok. Ugh

Man what a cluster, UVA really handled this badly.
