    UNC Postgame

Our record over the past few years has nothing to do with the conference affiliation. It is a reflection of sub-par talent acquisition. While some may feel that the Big East, as it was when we left it - with the likes of South Florida, Cincinnati, Rutgers and DePaul - had “cache” I tend to...

    UNC Postgame

The Orange got to the Final Four in 2016 as a member of the ACC. What we left was not the Big East as we knew it. And our issues on the court have nothing to do with the appropriate decision to become a member of the ACC.

    UNC Postgame

Yesterday was my first game in the Dome this season. It was fun to be there - finally. At the beginning of the game it seemed that the Orange was playing hard. It seems to me that SU has a lot of quality athletes - that Autry has the ability to go deep into his bench. As the game continued...

    Wildhack retiring July 1st

John Wildhack was presented with many challenges as SU AD, including coaching transitions, infrastructure issues and the world of NIL. His renovation of the Dome and his work on the Lally Center are significant achievements. I for one never expected to see the Dome become what it has become...

MY MAN TIMMY WELSH ON THE IONA/SIENA BROADCAST

Agreed. Coaches should wear suits - it adds class to the event. Nobody did it better than Pat Riley - and it was great.

    Quadir Copeland/NC St

I always liked him. He was a creative player who was fun to watch. I was disappointed to learn that he was apparently a difficult kid for the coaches.

    GMAC getting asked about Red

Save Pitino??? Really? I'm not sure how he can be dismissed as not even a "shrub" The fact is that Louis Orr had some decent moments. Willard did as well. Mike Hopkins was the two-time Pac 12 Coach of the Year. Brendan Malone had a really good NBA career. So did Weaver. Did any of...

    Tommy Devito: Patriots

It still kills me that Doug Marrone left. He did an amazing job revitalizing the nearly dead SU Football Program. He should have been a legacy coach - a Syracuse University legend. I wonder if he regrets his decision following the Pinstripe Bowl win against West Virginia.

    Tommy Devito: Patriots

Is Syracuse Football A Lost Cause?

Not to belabor this, but, again, the “de-emphasis” issue was addressed and resolved in 1970. When the Corbally Study concluded against de-emphasis, the move to the new stadium began. A Michigan coach was hired as HC. Coyne Field was built. Weight room facilities were enhanced. Jake, a...

    George McDonald

I just read this on ESPN.com. The former SU OC is the Ole Miss passing game coordinator. Wow. He is headed to LSU to join Lane Kiffin - at some point. So many former SU coaches out there - doing well.

Is Syracuse Football A Lost Cause?

The de-emphasis talk was in 1970 during the John Corbally administration. The study he commissioned concluded that there should be no de-emphasis. The need to replace Archbold followed the study. The goals outlined by Scooch were pretty much the goals that followed the Ben Schwartzwalder era -...

Is Syracuse Football A Lost Cause?

I’m not sure I understand your post. In the Jake C era we pretty did what we hoped to do in football. I don’t think we out performed our expectations.

Is Syracuse Football A Lost Cause?

What you have described is not all that different from the expectations that were in place in the late 1980s and early 1990s. The football program hoped to be in the top 25 from year to year and hoped to have a magical season from time to time - 1987. The basketball program hoped to compete...

Is Syracuse Football A Lost Cause?

Indiana has created the financial means to compete at a national championship level. It is hard for me to believe, as an Indiana alum, but from what I have been told, IU has the largest alumni association in the United States. It is, of course, a public university. It has the financial...

The renovation of the Dome - adding the hard roof - adding theater seats - improving the food service - getting a new naming partner - was a remarkable achievement. The decision to hire Fran Brown was an inspired one. I still think the pick was a very strategic one that will work. Re-setting...

Rudy Hackett & Jim Lee Day

The Zoo - behind the basket - immediately adjacent to the opponent's bench - was the most intimidating fan section I have ever seen. During a game against BC, the Zoo got the Eagles coach - Bob Zuffalato - to literally crawl on the raised floor rather than stand while coaching his team. The...

Rudy Hackett & Jim Lee Day

Yeah, but Jimmy - and Greg - did not play with the kind of talent that guys like McNamara had them during the BE/ACC years. Gerry is the only one in the glory years who sticks out in my mind - as a pure shooter. But, again, nobody had the kind of stroke that Jimmy Lee had - not even The...

Rudy Hackett & Jim Lee Day

Yes, Greg Kohls was a great shooter. I debated long and hard before posting what I posted - because "The Kid" was so good. He had much better range than Jimmy Lee. Probably better range than any shooter I have seen on the Hill. But, he did not face the kind of competition or high leverage...

Rudy Hackett & Jim Lee Day

They were great. Jimmy Lee was the best overall shooter I have ever seen at SU - from mid-range to long-range to free throws. He was at his best when it really mattered. Nothing ruffled him. It was a pleasure to watch him play. I remember watching Rudy Hackett while he was a frosh on...
