    Poetry in Moten..

I think he was working for the Syracuse City School District through the spring semester - we were at the same event not long ago. He lived a couple blocks away from me and was pretty regularly lifting weights in the front yard, shooting hoops in the park, etc. Didn't even realize he'd moved.

    RIP George Wendt

I know you're a big Cheers fan and perhaps have read this excellent oral history before. This excerpt is worth sharing: "Les Charles (co-creator): Shelley knew who her character was and had a much surer idea of herself than the rest of the cast. She was able to carry the show in the beginning...

I am skeptical, if only because everything I've had at the Taphouse is dreadful. And I'm not the pickiest patron. They are really good at having fruit flies and low morale among the staff. Beyond that, very skeptical.

Yeah...it's essentially a roast beef sandwich. Better than many. Not life-changing. I'd definitely consider the burger from Ale N Angus to be closer to "best in class" than this is within the universe of sandwiches, for whatever that's worth.

    Leonard Hamilton

It always sticks with me how even-keeled Hamilton was as the coach of those absolutely dreadful Miami teams after they joined the Big East. They were the Bad News Bears out there but he seemed like such a positive presence on the bench.

New $50M Fundraising Campaign Launched - Champion CUSE

Maybe. That's the rub, right? This is possibly a necessary step to compete, but it's not a sufficient step absent a lot of other things aligning. Which is why it seems facially ridiculous to all but the most invested fans.

New $50M Fundraising Campaign Launched - Champion CUSE

Putting aside my naysayer hat for a moment...seriously - the solution to what? A couple years into the cash spin-cycle that college athletics stumbled into, I'm not sure what fan problem is solved by opening up the spigot more. Reminds me a bit of this:

    Duke Post Game

Does Syracuse? Seriously, is that anything that's been addressed post-reseating? Seems to me that the math doesn't math in the basketball configuration based on how many total seats were removed.

    Devo’s Comments

Would he? The guy never played a lick of defense and was at the core of some notoriously soft teams. He could yap and make layups with both hands. The former would play great with the current team, but I'm not sure anyone on this roster is capable of the latter.

TBF this was his default look as a player, too. Citation: YouTube. It's not a big deal, IMO.

    Moore and Freeman

Ha. Reminds me of my buddy, hammered, yelling at the secondary during the late Shafer years: 'What do you do at practice? Eat sandwiches?"
  21. OttoMets

    Moore and Freeman

I'm far from an expert, but every time I watch this team I see #8 and think "Him? This is the kid who 99% of the board wants to get more minutes?" He struggles to dribble. He moves like Greg Davis. It's probably an indictment of how far the talent level has fallen that he's even on the roster...

Last 13 years, average 3p% rank is 190th

TBF there's a LOT of dumb luck in the "flail toward the hoop and hope for freebies" stat. If Kris Joseph got the whistles that Mintz got, he'd be SU's all-time leading scorer.

    Things wrong with this program

Totally with you. I really don't care for the game experience; the worse the on-court product deteriorates, the more forced and over-the-top everything else gets.

I'm sure others feel the same way

how many years do we have to pretend

For those are already to move on from Red

I've traveled on to road trips on a college basketball team bus, and I've done so on a plane. Not even close to a push. Bus is awful. That said, we're sacrificing comfortable and efficient travel so unremarkable 20-year-old basketball players can make solid salaries? What's the point, burn it down.

What's The Craziest Things You've Ever Seen In The Dome?

If I'm not mistaken -- and I could definitely be mistaken on this one -- NCAA wants host hotels to be full-service. That'd scratch most of those downtown locations and the Aloft as well. But there are some in the pipeline.

    Rotation we need

Serious question, because I might be getting these new guys mixed up: wasn't Moore the guy who turned a one-on-none fast break into a missed layup in the first half because he looked like he'd never dribbled a basketball while running before?

    Who was Drew Allen,

I'm still unreasonably irritated about that Penn State game. It was such a bad sign that the new coach watched this quarterback all August but couldn't see he wasn't the guy until three games in. Then IIRC Hunt came in and for one game was #1 in the country in QB rating or something like that...

And you know what? If the style of play were c.1990 UNLV, I'd probably shell out a few and shield my eyes from the hypocrisy. But to watch this quality of crap on the floor, after having gotten the pleasure of watching good college basketball for my first few decades on the planet? NFW.

So the thing is, college sports is stooooooopid. So stupid that the guys who make millions of dollars a year don't want to participate any more. Not sure why all the fans who pay thousands of dollars a year aren't catching on as quickly as the SMEs who are bailing on the charade.
