2023 FIFA Women's World Cup

Wild win for the Aussie ladies. Hope they get it done and win the whole thing.

I sprinkled a little on Spain at +550 a month ago. Looking good at halftime!

any one know why the penalty kick save by england was allowed?
You mean because she came off her line? It’s such an arbitrary rule that some refs enforce but most times the goalie can cheat up without consequence.

Going to be very interesting to see if 2023 starts to be the changing of the guard in women's soccer.

Only one of all the previous World Cup winners made it past the round of 16 - Japan.

As the traditional European powers and, perhaps more importantly, the big European clubs make substantial investments in the women's game, provide the same level of training that they provide on the men's side and create those same youth feeder programs, there is no way we can match that.

Attached is the Bio of MIke O'Neill, the executive director of girls coaching for one of this country's most prestigious "Academies" (in quotes because it is a pay-to-play academy).

With that bio, you think this guy even sniffs a job anywhere in Europe? Associate head coach at Rutgers, really? LOL...

Meanwhile, la Masia is now open to girls.

Complete mismatch.

yeah, but i thought in this event they were using var to confirm it when in doubt, and that was pretty bad

Yep. The only thing that may slow it down is some of the issues like you see ongoing with Spain. That said even with all that around their program they won their first women's WC.

Everything points to the U.S. getting gapped in the power race of Women's soccer by the top Euro squads. South American sides besides Brasil are also improving while you see the same consistency from the Aussie ladies and Japanese.

Athletics in this country are simply too saturated. Too many good high level sports in competition for the best athletes paired with weak youth systems like in the case of Women's soccer.

There's also been a drop-off in sports participation in some areas of the country like the rural northeast. I see more parents getting their kids into other hobbies or more and more kids preferring video games and social media channels. Not to mention the rise of eSports... ( I hate its labeled as a sport)
