I’ll continue to keep track of how teams did against ranked teams. Just something to look at in evaluating teams. The formula is to give teams points based on the ranking of the team they played: 25 points for playing a #1 ranked team, 24 for #2, 23 for #3, down to 1 point for playing #25. (A shortcut: subtract the number of the ranking from 26). Then you add in the net point differential of the game.

Example: Navy lost to #13 Notre Dame 3-42. The Middies get 13 points for playing the #13 team but lose 39 for losing to that team 3-42. Net points: -26. Let’s see who had the best result each week and who accumulates the most points over the season.

WEEK 14
Michigan beat #16 Iowa 26-0 = +36
Texas beat #18 Oklahoma State 49-21 = +36
Alabama beat #1 Georgia 27-24 = +28
Washington beat #5 Oregon 34-31 = +24
Florida State beat #14 Louisville 16-6 = +22
Oregon lost to #3 Washington 31-34 = +20
Southern Methodist beat #22 Tulane 26-14 = +16
Georgia lost to #8 Alabama 24-27 = +15
Louisville lost to #4 Florida State 6-16 = +12
Iowa lost to #2 Michigan 0-26 = -2
Oklahoma State lost to #7 Texas 21-49 = -9
New Mexico State lost to #24 Liberty 35-49 = -12

“Championship Week” – everybody gets points, (almost). If New Mexico State was the least impressive team, it was quite a weekend.
