We’re doing a homebirth. She goes into labor at around 11:40 am. Midwife arrives and starts setting up shop in the bedroom.

“I was thinking that the living room might be more ideal for a birth”
“Really? This room seems quieter and more peaceful”
“She won’t like the quiet. Nor the peace”

We set up in the living room where coincidentally the game is on. Volume is down most the way (I’m not a monster).

<few hours later after a big contraction>

“I’ve got great news”
“Can you see the baby yet?”
“No. Syracuse scored”

No laughs. Tough crowd.

<half hour later the midwife addresses me>

“Can you DVR this?”
“I am unfamiliar with that technology”
“Well can we turn off this distraction?”
“What distraction? I’m not distracted. You’re distracted”

3:39 pm - Dungey kneels down to run the clock out
3:41 pm - little boy pops out

What a considerate little runt

Congrats!!

8 years ago, we had to schedule my youngest’s c-section. When the doctor put out Dec 29, I was really like “oooh” to which my very pregnant wife was on the verge of cursing me out and close to being completely beside herself (I guess cuz of all the hormones and stuff). Having no recourse on the date, I’d made sure we got the earliest time (we were at the hospital at 4:45 in the morning). It all worked out, my son was healthy as could be, the wife had plenty of time to rest and recoup, which was way easier than her having twins the previous pregnancy 3 years earlier. Second most importantly that day, we all got to take in the first Pinstripe bowl in our room on the delivery wing.
