Sorry, my bad on this. I read title without reading article.

Article says that he will miss friendlies and will probably not play until Portugal's first game - which is on the 16th.

I took the 16 in the title to mean round of 16...

If Germany beats Portugal on 6-16 then the winner of Ghana-USA should be in the driver's seat to finish 2nd. Portugal needs CR to be able to draw Germany.

The USA might have drawn a tough group, but the order of matches wasn't bad. If the USA beats Ghana they can play a defensive shell against Portugal attack on the counter and if they draw Portugal. The Germany match wouldn't matter for the Germans assuming they beat Portugal/Ghana.

Best case scenario for the USA is to be sitting on 4 points going into the Germany match who is sitting on 6 points and would only need a draw to win the group. Expecting the USA to beat both Ghana/Portugal is unrealistic.
