DL Steve Linton transferring from Texas Tech to Baylor

Let’s see how much weight Steve gains in the next 9 months.
Who was the guy - a defensive player during Coach P's time - who made some really negative comments about SU to a recruit and then showed up for camp out of shape with a potbelly?
This made me think of him. :p

6-3 225 lowery versus 6-5 220 for linton. Two different positions though at least on the roster. Like I said, Linton is really a defensive gadget guy who gets what 25-30 snaps a game who probably wants 45-50. Is what it is, not really concerned but this ship may have sailed.

Losing Carter really sucks, Duce is a blow too but that is just what college football has become. Guys like Linton? Come and go. They are the ones that get the lost in the shuffle.
I hope Linton gets a shot at outside LB in Texas as he might do well there.

Yeah a buddy of mine got a job there and visited a couple times plus had to travel for work once. Just a whole lot of nothing.
Try it in August

I was there mid July. Not much better.
The guy left here because was never going to be more than a situational player here. Kids want to play, get it.

There was more opportunity for playing time in his opinion elsewhere.
Yeah and Texas tech isnt exactly a world beater in football, so it’s not like Duce or carter upgrading

Yea I get it. We lost our pass rush specialist, who was finally healthy and imo had a great year with what he was asked to do. I forgot we were overflowing with defensive lineman though. I’m also sure the $25k Texas Tech gives to all of their athletes didn’t factor into the equation either. Let’s not play this off like he wasn’t good enough to play here, but he can get on the field for Tech.

I think he’d have been a situational player for us next year. But he’s pretty damn good in those long down situations. Happy for him but disappointed to lose the positives he did bring. But These are the football times we live in these days.

It’d be nice to bring in a similar sized super explosive freshman like him that could hopefully add a bit more weight in the future. Unlike Linton was able to do in his 4 years here ufortunately.

yeah how on earth could Syracuse replace his on field production next year? I mean he had 22 tackles!! Linton is a guy that I feel would have transferred regardless of the new transfer portal. Don't think either side met the expectations of the other. According to HS coach he wasn't very happy here either

and again I rather he would have stayed but kids are going to come and go, people just need to learn to live with it

Not a bad loss. We have several defensive ends who are better. Linton didn’t even start for SU. Time to move on. Blame his hs coach for this. The kids 6’5” and not even 220 pounds.

Agreed. A good culture as a selling point is a necessity for Syracuse.

Honestly I believe there’s a lot to it when it comes to winning, kids stick together and they fight for each other. Better for chemistry, less selfishness. I also think this is partially why over the years Babers has not lost the team when they’ve collapsed. Even in the most trying times. GRobs teams quit. Babers teams played hard whistle to whistle no matter the score. But also as you say it’s good culture and a good selling point, I know as a parent I’d prefer to leave my kid to a coach who is all about the family.

And his 4.5 sacks good for like 3rd from the DLine. Heck Jobity had 3 in half the time. I liked Linton but we’ll survive his production.

I think you have to try really hard to get upset about Linton going to Texas Tech.

Like the same amount of getting upset about Benson going to Georgia Tech last year, or Morris going to Utah.

Why would we blame his HS coach? He's been here 4 years and couldn't gain weight here. Some kids just can't gain weight due to their genetics. Doubt its because Linton isn't trying.

I liked him too but he wasn't and every down player, he was really good in certain situations for sure but certainly can be replaced
