6 ACC teams in the Sweet 16 would be very sweet.

Plus, MTSU did UNC a dirty in 1985. Our 1st game was against them. They had the OVC Frosh of the year named Kerry Hammonds. He was a wide body who had some definite goon in him. He knocked Steve Hale out fo the tournament. Hale was the starting WG. He was easily our best periemter defender, and he rebounded very well. His ability to score tough baskets made it impossible for teams to try to half double up Kenny Smith, which meant Smith often flew past opposing PGs. So the loss of Hale hurt the team very badly.

We lost to Villanova in the Regional final, and Villanova won it all.

I wonder if Kenny were mumbling about Kerry Hammonds when the cameras weren't rolling. Several UNC players said when back on campus that Hammonds was dirty and that an MTSU assistant coach seemed to be directing him.

Halfway through that season, Smith and Hale gelled as an ideal college backcourt. They played better as a unit than Smith and Jordan had the year before. And we had Brad Daugherty as a 7 foot center finally showing he would have a long NBA career. We could have beaten Georgetown.
