Faceoff specialist Farrell aids Williams on scout team, shows competitiveness as SU freshman (DO)

With myself being a former middie at Whitesboro, I am watching his career with interest. Excellent article.

My only concern would be that, in having to weekly change his faceoff technique as a member of the scout team, does this impede his growth? I assume he gets enough reps with his regular F/O style that this isn't an issue, but it must be a tough role to fill while trying to refine his own technique.

You a raise a good point but I dont think it will have any lasting affect. I see no way he doesn't redshirt this year with Williams and Paduda clearly the 1-2 options so he doesnt have to worry about being ready to go in a game barring multiple injuries. He will have a full summer and fall ball to keep working on his personal technique.

Great article. I love the role younger players can have in pushing starters/upperclassmen... in any sport at any level.

The teaching these days is that you have to adapt to varying styles and not pigeon hole yourself to only one FO technique. Williams works out with the FOA (run by Greg Gurenlian) and this is an important aspect of their FO training. By training against someone of Williams caliber can only help a young player but doesn't Williams have two more years left?

Good post. FO technique is emphasized much more now than it was when I played, the game has evolved over the last 15 years. As a specialist, it only makes sense to have multiple tools of the trade to counter the approach of an opponent. When I played, it was "clamp and fight." Then again, we always finished bottom of the OHSL. May have been a different approach by the coaching staffs at West Genny, FM, 'pool, B-ville, etc.

As for Williams, he is listed as a Sophmore. He has been a much-needed breath of fresh air at the X.

Williams is a Sophmore, he has two years left after this year. Paduda is a redshirt Sophmore. Ferrel and Parker should both redshirt. I am assuming Demarco will probably redshirt as well.
