Favorite moments that don’t show up on the scoreboard

As the season gets started, I often find myself reminiscing about my favorite Cuse basketball moments. What are some of yours that don’t show up on the scoreboard? I’m not referring to plays like “The Block” but rather interactions and other things.

For example, I always liked Matt Roe calling for the ball as Stevie was about to dunk after the hike pass from Sherman in MSG. That always makes me laugh.

My absolute favorite off the scoreboard moment was in the 1996 Final Four against Mississippi State when Dontae Jones starting woofing at John Wallace. JW took him to school then ran down the court gesturing for Jones to come get some (who would have thought that The Rock would steal his “Just Bring It” hand gesture from JW?)

Standing outside our hotel chanting let’s go orange and other things at the Kansas fans standing outside the hotel they were staying at across the street from us as we waited on the team bus to arrive after winning the NC and then eating pizza and drinking in the hotel lobby with CTO, Jake, Tomcat, my bro’s, and many others. Surreal.

I was sitting home on Sunday thinking of making the 24 hour drive to NO for the final. It was a lot of money and time for an unknown , I made the wrong choice and stayed home. Jeremy McNeil on his senior night in 2004. His last living relative had died earlier in the season, so he did not have any family members to walk with him to half court (as per tradition). Instead, the entire team walked with him and stood with him as he received his framed jersey. Many wet eyes in the Dome.

I loved JGIII handing the ball to Hubb and casually walking away right after time expired when Cuse won at ND two years ago. It was sweet revenge after Hubb taunted him earlier in the year.

06-07 game vs Nova if I remember correctly. That was so bizarre. Did anyone ever determine what exactly he possibly could have said to warrant being kicked out? And I didn’t think a ref even had the authority to kick out a fan.

Ronnie Thompson melting down in the SU - G’Town game in 1990 to the point where he had to be pulled from the game. Big John had been ejected and he couldn’t handle 30000+ chanting “Where’s your dad, Ronnie, where’s your dad?” CLAP CLAP

Honorable mention for a similar chant that rattled Danny Hurley — “Bobby’s Better!” Clap clap clap clap clap - though I’m sure that was not exclusive and or original to the Dome.
