that's the bill connelly mumbo jumbo

has us at 68th in the country and not favored to win another game. expected wins is 3.5

we've been better than average (by a smidge in some games) in all games but Wake. and we've been around the 30th percentile for all games on defense but colgate. Even louisville! (their offense is awesome)

we're 43rd in offense, 90th in defense.

we've had bad luck with scoring and schedule but we might not stink ?

scroll down to the situational - it's amazing how bad the defense is in the first quarter and how good the offense is - then everything flips around

it's also weird that our punt returns are so good and our kick returns are so bad

the moral of this story might be that there are a few things that we are so bad at that it wrecks everything but most of the team might not be that bad.

128th in rushing success rate, 128th in PD to INC ("A defensive personality stat, this looks at the percentage of an opponent's incomplete passes that you either intercepted or broke up. This isn't necessarily a quality stat, just a look at general aggressiveness levels.")

Like I said before, stop the home run giveaways on defense, and run the ball a little better, and it's MUCH better.

We should throw more to Ishmeal. His catch rate is pretty high (84.4%). He lacks the explosiveness of Etta-Tawo and Phillips, but he should get a few more thrown his way.

Caught one back shoulder off the defenders back shoulder in double coverage Saturday. Dungey has to become more comfortable trusting Ish and ET. We should back shoulder the snot out of teams

Agree, we have been so predictable not only with play calls but alignment. AET on the left and Ish on the right every time. AET deep, ish short and staying on the numbers. No combo routes over the middle. Intermediate throws to ish will pay dividends.

It was making me crazy on 3rd and long (especially that one 3rd and 17) that Dungey would be dancing and then run for something between -2 or +2.

Just throw the ball up. You have guys like Ishmael and ET that can go up and get the ball, be more physical than the DB. Or are more likely to draw PI. Or worst case, it's an INT which is just like a punt.

But if you just try to wait too long with a bad line for something to open up, you're less likely that something good will happen.

We really need to work on that.

Agreed--we've had a few systemic breakdowns on both sides of the ball that have hurt us. We're reeling due to injuries at OL,and in the secondary that have hamstrung us, inexperience at DE and RB, etc.

But it isn't difficult to envision much better productivity when we get a few kinks ironed out. Slightly better OL play / depth would greatly improve the running game, and enable us to capitalize once teams began to overplay for the pass. Not giving up home run plays as often on defense would greatly improve the defensive #'s. And the defense might be improving, as they've showed in parts of the last two games.

As "bad" as we've been in many respects--and I accept in advance how strange this is going to sound--sometimes it feels like we're not as far off as it seems. Injuries have done us and cut into what was already a thin margin for error this year.

Yep, F/+ is good stuff too, combines Bill Connely and Brian Fremau analytics.

You're 76 right now. Remember 2013, when you went 7-6 and how exciting that team was? You were 75 that year.

In other words, this team is roughly as good as that team.

Things are not as bad as they look. Or they weren't as good as they looked back then, however you want to look at it.

It may not feel like it, but those ratings still have you rated above nine other FBS programs.

Brisley>Riley

I have no idea why he keeps running Riley out on KO's. It's nuts.

Its hard to tell when Dungey is holding the ball and making the correct read to wait and throw or making the wrong one, but most of the sacks have come from having enough time to throw just not doing it. its not like he has to rush every throw. i just wish the oline stayed with their blocks better.. like last week when we ran the reverse/jet sweep and Phillips was run down by the DE. if the tackle maintains the block the play goes for a 1st down and not a punt.. instead he hits the end one time and then stops. too many of those mistakes are killing some promising play calling.

Riley is a better returned in the sense he actually makes moves and makes people miss.. he clearly is too small though to get thru traffic.

He's not a better returner then Brisley in any way shape or form. He's undersized, lacks vision and runs into his own blockers more often than not. The kickoff returner game is a joke right now and is hurting us badly on field position.
