Welcome to National Grey Day!

National Grey Day is on May 26th and it is designed to celebrate all things grey!
So if you stumble upon a grey dog, pet it, and if you are thinking on what to wear, pull out that grey top.
Grey is very often overlooked.
How many times do you hear someone say that his or her favorite color is grey?
Rarely.
That is why this day was made, in order to celebrate the color that we all believe we could live without.

Art Monk Returns to WPHS as 'Hometown Hall of Famer' (theexaminernews.com; Coqueran)

On May 18, the Pro Football Hall of Fame and the Ford Motor Company paid tribute to one of White Plains High School’s most admired alumni, Art Monk, designating him a “Hometown Hall of Famer” hero.

Monk graduated from White Plains High School in 1976, after an illustrious athletic career in football and track & field. He also excelled in academics, which helped him receive a scholarship to Syracuse University, where he graduated in 1979.

Monk played wide receiver for the Orangemen and led the team in receiving for three years (1977-‘79). He still remains in the top ten of several football career-statistics at Syracuse, including receptions, all-time receiving yards and receiving yards per game. He was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 2012.

SU Football Single Game Ticket Pre-Sales Are Underway (TNIAAM; Menefee)

Syracuse Orange football single game tickets are now for sale for Orange Club members and existing season ticket holders. All home games in 2016, including Florida State, are open for pre-sale for people who fall into one of those two groups. The pre-sale runs until June 10. Tickets are discounted during this period at up to 20 percent of their regular cost.

Those wishing to buy can call the Carrier Dome box office or do so online. You can find more detailed information here.

Even with the announcement of new Dome renovations, Syracuse football tickets are actually at a lower price than last year. This is clearly in effort to improve the school's attendance numbers, which have been trending in the wrong direction lately. The season kicks off on Friday, September 2 against Colgate in the first Syracuse game under Dino Babers. The program has already announced many themed-days to encourage people to come to games as well.

Single-game tickets for all home games other than Florida State will go on sale for the general public on June 21. The Florida State tickets will go on sale June 26. Non-conference games are $20 per seat. The Louisville and NC State games are $25 per seat, and Virginia Tech and Florida State tickets will be $30 per seat.

Kentrail Moran Exiled to New Mexico (krqe.com; Tate)

It’s not a secret that New Mexico likes to run the football. Perhaps it was too much to pass up for Kentrail Moran.

The talented runningback out of O’Fallen High School in Illinois committed to the Lobos over the weekend and will be available for the 2016 season. Moran was considered one of the best running backs in the state of Illinois as he finished his high school career.

The three star recruit originally committed to Illinois but reopened his recruitment. Moran is listed at 5-foot, 10-inches and 192 pounds and also had offers from Iowa, Indiana, Kansas and Syracuse.

Moran told 247 Sports,”It will be a great spot and a lot of people will regret not having me.”

Moran had 3,569 rush yards during his high school career. He had 27 rush touchdowns with 28 overall.

Pat Hobbs Working to Schedule Football Game at Yankee Stadium (onthebanks.com; Whitmer)

While throwing out the first pitch at Yankee Stadium last night, Chris Ash and Pat Hobbs spent a good deal talking about the organization and the venue. Pat Hobbs even made a point to say that they were working on scheduling a game at Yankee Stadium. Maybe this was just Hobbs appeasing the Yankees organization or maybe, even worse, he was actually serious.

Playing a football game at Yankee Stadium is simply a terrible idea for Rutgers. It has been done before as a regular season game against Army and twice as bowl games against Iowa State and Notre Dame. Not once was it smooth sailing. The first time, Rutgers played Army in a regular season game in 2011. The only benefit for Rutgers in that game was when Army broke off a long run on one of the first plays but the running back slipped on crappy sod on the 5 yard line. Low and behold, Rutgers would play Iowa State there in the Pinstripe Bowl that same season. Rutgers won in a crappy matchup that not too many people seemed excited about.

Rutgers returned to Yankee Stadium at the conclusion of the 2013 season to face Notre Dame in the Pinstripe Bowl. This game was incredibly hyped up due the fact that it was Notre Dame and that there are masses of Notre Dame alumni in the area. This led to a perfect 50/50 looking crowd of red and gold. However, the game was one of the worst football games I've ever seen.

However, in a regular season game, there is no advantage. If it is a home game, Rutgers loses a big home field advantage against anyone they would play. Say what you want, but the environment at Yankee Stadium is nothing like Rutgers Stadium.

If it is an away game, it would be against a New York team. Rutgers was scheduled to play Army there last year until it was abruptly switched back to the historic Michie Stadium in West Point. I don't know why anyone would want to steal a game away from that venue. The other options: Syracuse or Buffalo. No one gives a crap about those teams and no one would go to those game.

In general, I am not a fan of neutral site games, as they severely detract from the pageantry that makes college football so great. Combine that with shitty sod and most likely a crappy opponent and you have a lose-lose situation for Rutgers.

Please, don't do this, Pat.

Fired Up Diaco Wants to Grow Attendance Along with UConn Football Program (courant.com; Anthony)

Uconn football players will return to campus Monday and coach Bob Diaco will lead a team meeting scheduled for 8 p.m. Summer session classes begin Tuesday. Freshmen arrive June 19, undergo a physical and take part in a two-day university orientation.

The Huskies, who increased their victory total by four and finished 6-7 last season, return 18 starters — 10 on offense and eight on defense.

Speaking at an alumni event Monday night at Dockside Seafood and Grill in Branford, Diaco mentioned the physical and intellectual growth of players and said, "How you gonna stop this force? How you gonna stop it?"

Diaco also talked about UConn growing in unison with its supporters — the Huskies learning how to become a big-time program, fans learning how to be big-time fans.

Training camp begins Aug. 4 and the season opener is Sept. 1 against Maine at Rentschler Field.
