Welcome to Giving Tuesday!

#GivingTuesday is a global day of giving fueled by the power of social media and collaboration.

Celebrated on the Tuesday following Thanksgiving (in the U.S.) and the widely recognized shopping events Black Friday and Cyber Monday, #GivingTuesday kicks off the charitable season, when many focus on their holiday and end-of-year giving.

One of the best ways to get involved is in your own community. We've created a directory to help you find organizations, charities, events and more in your own community.

Zack Mahoney: Syracuse Football’s Mr. November (TNIAAM; Keeley)

Zack Mahoney is the greatest 1-6 quarterback in the history of Syracuse Orange football.

Mahoney’s story is already legend with SU fans. The JUCO College of DuPage quarterback came to Syracuse in 2015 as a preferred walk-on and we all assumed he was a break-glass-in-case-of-emergency backup who would never see the field for meaningful snaps.

Then, A.J. Long was ruled ineligible. Then, Terrel Hunt was lost early in the 2015 season. Then, freshman phenom Eric Dungey went down with injury. All of a sudden, Mahoney was the Syracuse starting quarterback when the mighty LSU Tigers came to town looking for an easy victory. LSU got that win but it certainly wasn’t easy. Mahoney acquitted himself well with a three-touchdown performance and we all wondered how in the hell that happened.

Dungey would return and Mahoney saw spot duty for the next month or so before another concussion sidelined the star QB for the rest of the season. And so, Mahoney took the reigns once more when the Orange hosted the No. 1 Clemson Tigers on November 14. Again, the Orange played the more talented team tough. And even though his statline wasn’t much to look at it, you couldn’t argue with the fact that Zack had his team in it in the fourth quarter.

Orange Watch: Our thought process behind selecting the 2016 All ACC football team - The Juice Online (the juice; Bierman)

Item: For the last four ACC footballs seasons we’ve been one of approximately 50 voters (48 this year), members of ACSMA (Atlantic Coast Sports Media Association), to submit a ballot for the all conference football team. This voting process includes not only picking multiple players at each position, but also selecting a player, coach, and rookie of the year (from one newcomer from each side of the ball). With our criteria consisting of reviewing the media’s pre-season all conference choices, keeping tabs on the players of the week during the season, the nominations emailed out by each school’s media relations staff, and, of course, from covering and watching the games, paying particular attention to this past weekend’s rivalry games to end the regular season, we hemmed and hawed on some choices but produced the mandatory 84 different names on our ballot for the weighted tabulation, including a Syracuse player as the top choice at his position for a second straight year.

With the annual reminder to voters from ACSMA executive director Dave Goren to “do your best to make fair selections,” citing concerns that some voters may show bias to the ACC school they cover (almost 70% of ACSMA members reside in Virginia or North Carolina), and a warning proclaiming “ballots that show extreme bias without support may be discarded,” we completed the process this past Sunday before the 5:00 p.m. EST deadline.

When the results were released 22 hours later Monday afternoon, there was Orange wide receiver Amba Etta-Tawo our choice as the top player at the position, an expectant first team selection, although second in the voting to Clemson’s Mike Williams, our second choice, joined by North Carolina’s Ryan Switzer, also our third choice.

Why did we select Etta-Tawo over Williams, thought to be the better NFL prospect for a team that may again contend for the national championship? Simple, the ‘Cuse one year wonder was the statistical leader in four receiving categories; receptions, receptions average/game, receiving yards/game, and reception touchdowns (tied), and in his final collegiate game went out with a bang scoring five times against Pitt in the wild, almost unthinkable, 76-61 loss last Saturday.

While the offensive and defensive players of the year will not be announced until Wednesday afternoon, we’ll go ahead and tell you that we voted for Clemson quarterback Deshaun Watson over Louisville’s Lamar Jackson for first team quarterback and offensive player of the year. Again it was simple. Watson led the Tigers to an 11-1 record with the only mulligan his late interception in the loss to Pittsburgh, and if the Tigers beat Virginia Tech Saturday night in the ACC championship game at Orlando, they’ll have a shot at playing for the national title for the second straight year. Not too shabby.

Syracuse football: 10 memorable moments from the 2016 season
(PS; photo gallery; Axe)

Another Syracuse University football season has come and gone. The Orange finished 48 in Dino Babers' first season as head coach, the same record the Orange finished with in 2015 under Scott Shafer. The 2016 season was full of highs, both good and bad.

Wide receiver Amba Etta-Tawo set new marks for catches (94), yards (1,482) and touchdowns (14). The Orange also gave up a record high amount of touchdowns (61) and points in a single game (76 to Pittsburgh).

Eastwood's Palace Theatre sold: What's in the new owner's plans?
(PS; Cazentre)

The Palace Theatre in Eastwood changed owners recently, but if you haven't noticed the difference yet, that's not surprising.

New owner Steve Skinner says he plans "healthy changes," but nothing that will take away from the legacy established by members of the Dibella/Heagerty family, who built and ran the theater for almost a century.

"It's a community asset and a civic asset, and we want to continue that," Skinner said. "We want to do more, more of everything." That will include more movies, Skinner said, "very soon." Skinner is still working with local promoter Stacy Waterman to book and produce shows.

The Palace, 2384 James St., currently hosts an assortment of concerts (like last weekend's Salt City Waltz), community events and occasional film screenings. It also has an upstairs event room, complete with a full-service catering kitchen.

Skinner is well known in the Eastwood neighborhood: He and his family own the Eastwood Plaza, which is also home to the family business, Sacred Melody, a Christian book and music shop. Among his tenants are the original Cafe Kubal coffee shop and roaster and the Eastwood Brewing Co.

All that makes him an Eastwood booster.

Just a little trivia... ACSMA executive director Dave Goren is a Syracuse alum. I would hope he could do something to change the balance of ACSMA voters to make it more fair and representative of the entire conference.

has any team had a coach win coach of the year for doing less than Fuente did.

got drilled by Tenn and SU, lost to GT

won a monsoon game

beat 4 teams that were bad, almost lost to nd and duke who didnt go bowling

he found a way to beat pitt and miami and look pretty avg the rest of the year

and he didnt have to play any of the 3 best teams in the league until next week and might get drilled again the way clemson is playing

he also took the #17 team at 4-1 and managed to get them unranked without playing a ranked team the rest of the year
