Everett Golson Has Got It Going On

Syracuse vs Notre Dame Preview (CBSSports.com)

Everett Golson playing mistake-free football is a major reason why Notre Dame is off to an unbeaten start.
Syracuse's bid to stay perfect heading into this matchup ended thanks to turnovers and other miscues.
These teams meet for the first time in six seasons Saturday night, and the eighth-ranked Fighting Irish and Orange will both be looking to win for the first time at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J.
Golson has thrown for 780 yards, seven touchdowns and no interceptions while also scoring four times on the ground for Notre Dame after sitting out last season due to an academic suspension. The Fighting Irish (3-0) are tops in the nation in turnover margin and red-zone offense.
"Everett's a great football player," Syracuse coach Scott Shafer said. "We knew that he had a year off last year and now all of a sudden, he's back.

Syracuse Regroups with No. 8 Notre Dame Up Next (AP; Kekis)

Coming off a disheartening home loss, Syracuse plays a nationally televised prime-time game in a key recruiting area.
The Orange face No. 8 Notre Dame in a neutral-site matchup Saturday night at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, the home of the
New York Giants and Jets.
It's a big game for both teams, but for Syracuse it's especially huge. The Orange (2-1) are listed as 12-point underdogs against the Irish (3-0), who are coming off a bye week.
"It's human nature to actually enjoy being the underdog," coach
Scott Shafersaid Tuesday. "It's a great opportunity to go play under the lights in New Jersey. It's what you want."
Last Saturday, Syracuse outgained Maryland by 220 yards (589-369), rushing for a season-high 370 while holding the Terrapins to just 89.
The Orange still lost 34-20.

Notre Dame head coach Brian Kelly joining the ACC coaches' teleconference now. Will post updates.

Kelly on Syracuse: "Coming off a great offensive performance, we've got our hands full." Great...

Kelly said that he thinks Hunt's running ability sets up excellent play-action opportunities. Something we haven't seen a ton of this year.

Kelly says Notre Dame's ACC affiliation has "opened up a foothold and opportunity to recruit in the Carolinas and on the Eastern seaboard."

#NotreDame HC Brian Kelly on ACC call: #Syracuse runs ball efficiently. ... Defensively, Coach Shafer/Bullough do great job of pressure/TOs

HC Brian Kelly: Tough to defend dual-threat QB like Terrel Hunt.

HC Brian Kelly: Don't know if "surprised" is word, but pleased to take care of football, especially with young, athletic team.

HC Brian Kelly: Don't know if "surprised" is word, but pleased to take care of football, especially with young, athletic team.

HC Brian Kelly: Very thin on back-end of our defense. Still evolving at safety play. O-line still has room for growth.

HC Brian Kelly: "This year, we've got to score points." Golson a playmaker now, wasn't asked that in 2012.

HC and Boston native Brian Kelly: "We love being back in NY, it's such a great area."

HC Brian Kelly on ACC arrangement: Excited about opening up a foothold/opportunity in the Carolinas, Virginia, Florida, etc.

Scott Shafer coming on the ACC coaches' teleconference now.

Shafer on Golson: "Does a good job getting out of bad plays. And if he gets caught in a bad play, he can take off and be effective w/ feet."

Shafer used the word "nemesis" to describe all of his team's self-inflicted wounds against Maryland.

Shafer reiterates that replacing Ashton Broyld will be by committee. Praised Ben Lewis' flexibility in the offense.

With Brisly Estime as the starter, that is. After that, reps will be by committee.

Shafer: UND's offense keeps you off balanced and great players make it a tougher challenge.

Shafer: SU has worked on gang tackling, other fundamentals in practice.

Shafer: "They've been in tempo with their plays... The job Notre Dame has done in the red zone is unbelievable."

Shafer on using RBs plus WRs in the slot: "I think everybody on board ... is accessible."

#Syracuse's Scott Shafer on what being HC has taught him: Enjoyed being in press box more than I knew, bc I didn't get in trouble when mad

HC Scott Shafer on Everett Golson: Making plays down the field, his creativity, phenomenal athlete. Plays game on-time, on sked.

Florida State DT Nile Lawrence-Stample out for season (CSBSports)

Given that it still boasts the likes of Eddie Goldman and Mario Edwards Jr., Florida State's defensive line is as well-positioned as any in the country to suffer the loss of an experienced starting nose tackle. But it'll have to be after Jimbo Fisher announced Tuesday that Nile Lawrence-Stample will miss the rest of the season with a torn pectoral muscle...

Very interesting quote from Lester:

Quarterbacks coach Tim Lester

"I hate (the late start). I know they'll hate that. We all that hate. The noon game is the greatest game. Ever. You get up, you eat and you play.

"Night games are something you have to get used to. You sit around all day. You watch football, and then you're just waiting for that pregame meal because it's a process from pregame meal to meetings to getting on the bus, then you're back in.

"It'll be more just because it'll be a lot of people. It will be loud, which a lot of times that brings the best out of people. It will be interesting to see. It really comes down to when can we settle down. It can be the first drive. It might be the first play. It might be the third drive.

"As far as the jitters when you come out, those teams like Florida State and Clemson and Notre Dame, they make it hard to get in a rhythm. You're going to have to do a couple good things early so everyone kind of relaxes and goes play."
