Welcome to Veterans Day!

Veterans Day is an official United States public holiday, observed annually on November 11, that honors military veterans, that is, persons who served in the United States Armed Forces. It coincides with other holidays, including Armistice Day and Remembrance Day, celebrated in other countries that mark the anniversary of the end of World War I; major hostilities of World War I were formally ended at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918, when the Armistice with Germany went into effect. The United States previously observed Armistice Day. The U.S. holiday was renamed Veterans Day in 1954.

Veterans Day is not to be confused with Memorial Day; Veterans Day celebrates the service of all U.S. military veterans, while Memorial Day is a day of remembering the men and women who gave their lives and those who perished while in service.

Orange Watch: DEspite Distractions Surrounding Future, SU Coach Scott Shafer Plows Ahead (thejuice; Bierman)

Item: With a current six game losing streak that is bringing back unpleasant memories of the disastrous Greg Robinson era (2005-08), and with only an upset of seismic proportions against No. 1 Clemson (9-0, 6-0) Saturday afternoon in the Dome (3:30 p.m. ET / ABC-ESPN2) preventing that number from reaching seven straight defeats, the Syracuse coach remains steadfast only worrying about the elements he can control.

Scott Shafer has spoken with his boss this week, but with so much preparation time needed for his team’s meeting with the impressive Tigers, who’ve already wrapped up a spot in the ACC championship game, there’s been no diving into details with Mark Coyle about evaluating his future running the Orange program. The closest we know publicly about whether or not Shafer returns for a fourth season came from the comments made by Coyle’s special assistant, all-time great Floyd Little, when he told the Syracuse Media Group earlier this week that a thorough review of Shafer will come after the season concludes Nov. 28 at home against Boston College.

“He (Coyle) appreciates the hard work our coaches and players are putting in,” Shafer said Tuesday afternoon during his weekly local call with the media when asked about his relationship with Coyle, now four plus months on the job, and the speculation that has ratcheted up about his tenure as the school’s 29th head football coach coming to an end after three seasons, a 2013 Texas Bowl victory, but a current overall 13-21 mark.

To be 9-0 for only the third time in the history of this school is really a great accomplishment for these guys. For us, it's just back on the road heading up to Syracuse. This is a trip I think our guys look forward to. Any time you get a chance to go to New York - that's the neat thing about college football in that a lot of our guys get a chance to go up there to a place they haven't seen. I hadn't been there until two years ago. It's a good experience as far as a place to play a game. I had never been there until two years ago. They are 3-2 at home. They're tough at home. Tough team. Tough crowd. They had a close loss to LSU in a 10-point game and three-point game Pitt as well. We have to continue to do what we do and get ourselves mentally and physically ready to play our best game of the season.”

The Orangemen are 3-6 overall and just 1-4 in ACC play.

“There are some question marks on them because they've had some injuries and we aren't sure which quarterback is going to play,” Swinney said. “For us we're trying to focus on ourselves and we're trying to get better. We have not played our best ball yet. It's a huge opportunity for our seniors - if we win the game the seniors are going for their 27th ACC win and a chance for a 10th win. There is so much on the line for us each and every week. It's a season of its own and a story of its own. For us, it's just staying dailed in staying focused and keeping the structure in place.”<p>Swinney said the Carrier Dome is a difficult place to play.

“It is loud. You have to manage the noise. It's indoors and they're right on top of you,” he said. “It's similar to N.C. State in that regard, but with a roof on it. They can reach out and touch you. That's the biggest thing and then the team you are playing. They are a prideful bunch at home, especially. They haven't had the type of year you want, but they've had a ton of injuries. The thing I'm impressed with when I watch Syracuse is the fact that they play hard and physical. They present some challenges. Offensively they have the ability score.

“They went right down the field and scored in the opening drive against FSU and played them tough for a while. They have done a lot of different things. They have all kinds of stuff we have to defend. And they have different quarterbacks. They have really good skill. They have three great wideouts and do a great job with the running game. They play tough at home and we know that for us we're going to get everyone's best game. That's just the way it is and that is why it's important for us to play to the standard we talk about."

No Tickets Left for VP Joe Biden's Speech at Syracuse University (PS; Weiner)

Syracuse University has distributed all of the tickets it had available for Vice President Joe Biden's speech on Thursday at an event to raise awareness about campus sexual assaults.

The university had planned to give away a limited number of free ticketsTuesday and Wednesday, but all of the tickets were claimed Tuesday, said Keith Kobland, an SU spokesman.

Biden, a 1968 graduate of the SU College of Law, will speak in SU's Goldstein Auditorium. The auditorium seats about 1,300 people. Doors will open at 9:30 a.m. Thursday.

SU is among four college campuses Biden plans to visit this week as part of the "It's On Us" week of action. The program seeks to engage college students in a discussion about the problem of sexual assaults on campus.

The White House launched the "It's On Us" public awareness campaign last year after reports that one in five women had been assaulted during their college years.

This is a perfect example of a click bait negative headline.

No success vs a number 1? An exception you say!?

Have already seen a ton of people complaining about the uniforms for Saturday. It's a tribute to military in a symbolic way. Christ, people, of all the things we can complain about with this team, it shouldn't be their choice to honor the armed forces.

I am guessing it will also be less confusing as Clemson wears orange and white.
