Welcome to Penguin Awareness Day!

World Penguin Day coincides with the annual northward migration of penguins. This happens each year on or around April 25th. Penguins do not fly. Rather, they walk, or waddle their way to and from.

Our research did not uncover any information about the origin of Penguin Awareness Day. And, we found no consensus on the date. Rather, we found several conflicting dates in January. If anyone can provide information about this day, please contact us.

Did you know? Penguins are found in Antarctica, South Africa, Australia, New Zealand, Chile, Peru, the Falkland Islands, and the Galapagos Islands. Elsewhere, they are only found in zoos.

Ohio OLB Andrew Armstrong Verbals to SU After Visit (PS; Bailey)

Syracuse head coach Dino Babers and staff had already picked up commitments from a few former targets at Bowling Green.

Late Tuesday evening, the Orange added a pledge from an ex-BGSU commit, outside linebacker Andrew Armstrong. He confirmed the news to Syracuse.com after Chad Krispinsky of WKBN broke it.

The 6-foot-2, 215-pound Cardinal Mooney (Youngstown, Ohio) High School senior is rated two stars by and At their request, this network is being blocked from this site.. Armstrong was also offered by Wake Forest and Cincinnati, and was considering visiting both schools before making his pledge. He becomes the 13th member of SU's Class of 2016 and the second linebacker, joining middle linebacker and early enrollee Kenneth Ruff.

Armstrong, a two-time All-Ohio Division IV first-team selection, played strong safety and tight end for the Cardinals, but projects as an outside linebacker. He logged two interceptions to go with 16 receptions, 405 yards and three touchdowns in his first eight games last season.

Armstrong was one of seven Class of 2016 recruits on an official visit to Syracuse this past weekend. California athlete Sean Riley andFlorida safety Devon Clarke also pledged from that group.

Post Scott QB Options for Orange in Class of 2016 (TNIAAM; Pilatzke)

...
Anthony Brown: Brown is a 6'2", 200 lbs. dual threat QB from St. John Vianny High School in Holmdel New Jersey. Brown committed to Boston College in May of last year and is rated three stars. Upon Coach Babers being hired at Syracuse, Brown was one of the first recruits he began following on Twitter. However, Brown hasn't shown any signs of wavering in his commitment to the Eagles. Boston College did change offensive coordinators; however the new OC Scot Loeffler is renowned for working with QBs, including Tom Brady while he was at Michigan.

De'Vante Cross: Cross is a 6'2", 195 lbs, dual threat QB from Parkland High School in Allentown Pennsylvania. Cross committed to Boston College as a cornerback in October but re-opened his recruiting December 22. The previous staff recruited Cross as well, and Cross had some reciprocal interest. Virginia is also reportedly recruiting Cross as well. Cross could be a recruit Syracuse recruits at QB with a back up plan to play cornerback if the depth at the QB position improves.

JUCO:

Buffalo Favorite Mighty Taco to Open in Cicero (PS; Moses)

Mighty Taco, the restaurant chain that has a cult-like following in the Buffalo area, plans to open its Cicero eatery on Monday.

The Buffalo-based chain will open its 24th location at 7789 Brewerton Road (also known as 911 N. Main St.) right next door to the CopperTop Tavern. The location, in a former Tim Hortons, will open at 10 a.m. Monday.

Russ Jasulevich, chief operating officer of Mighty Taco, said the restaurant is excited to make its return to the Syracuse area.

The chain had a location for a time at Destiny USA, back when the mall was still known as Carousel Center.

The company announced on social media in October that it would return to the Syracuse area.

Mighty Taco got its start in 1973 with a shop on Hertel Avenue in Buffalo. Its menu features typical Tex-Mex fare, including tacos, burritos and fajitas.

There's also a signature Buffalo chicken-style with blue cheese dressing in a burrito: the Buffito.

Nearly all of the chain's locations are in the Buffalo area, except for two restaurants in Rochester suburbs.

The Cicero location features a dining room and a drive-thru.

Worst Passwords of 2015: 'Star Wars' Terms Join 'qwerty' and '123456' (PS; Axelson)

It's frustrating when websites require long, unique passwords with numbers, upper and lower case letters and special characters. But when you take a look at SplashData's worst passwords of 2015 list, you can see why it's necessary.

The security applications company revealed the list Tuesday. It was generated from lists of more than 2 million passwords leaked during the past year, most of which came from North America and Western Europe, according to CNET.

Passwords that are easy to remember are also easy for cyber criminals to guess, making them among the worst to use for web security. "123456," "password" and "qwerty" all rank among the worst passwords of the year.

Some people try to add more security with passwords like "12345678," "qwertyuiop" and "1qaz2wsx" (the first two columns on a standard keyboard), but building on an already easy-to-guess pattern doesn't add much more security.

"The longer passwords are so simple as to make their extra length virtually worthless as a security measure," SplashData notes in a press release.

Dino Babers introduced on @SiriusXMCollege. No doubt he's on the recruiting grind: "I've been better. I'm a little tired this morning."

Babers on recruiting shuffle: "Hectic... chaotic... You're happy and celebrating over here. You're disappointed and moving on over there."

Dino Babers said his initial focus post-hire was on administration. Wants to ensure positive reinforcement for his vision.

Babers said he didn't want to rush the hiring process for his staff. Took recommendations from those he knows well.

Babers: "I'm really excited even though we're in a late stage of the game." Believes there's still good talent to be added.

Dino Babers on whether Syracuse has the players to run his hurry-up spread: "In some ways, the offense recruits itself." Knows speed is big.

Dino Babers talking about how hard it was to leave Bowling Green. "It broke my heart that I couldn't coach in the last game."

Dino Babers said he's only spoken with the current Syracuse team three times due to winter break.

Babers is holding "State of the Union" meetings with current players on Saturdays during the recruiting race. About 30 minutes each.

Babers is going off trust on finding hosts for official visitors this month. Admits it's not a perfect system for the first year.

Dino Babers on staff changes: "It was almost a clean sweep, so to speak."

Babers said TEs coach Reno Ferri is the first guy he's brought in as an offensive coach who'll have to learn the hurry-up spread.

Babers said he met with former Syracuse DC Chuck Bullough to understand the program. Called him a good friend.

That's it for Babers. Will have a post with longer quotes in a bit.
