Welcome to National Chocolate Cake Day!

Chocolate Cake Day is a a chocolate lovers delight, and a day to eat cake. Why this a day to "bake your chocolate cake...and eat it, too!"

On this day, a white or yellow cake will not do. Nor, will part chocolate, part white suffice. It must be chocolate, all chocolate. You can make milk chocolate, dark chocolate, fudge, or any other type of chocolate cake.

The only reference to Chocolate Day on the Internet is from Ecard and calendar websites. This might lead you to conclude that this as a day for(and by) the Ecard companies. But, we know better. This day is for you, and all chocolate lovers.

There are three objectives of Chocolate Cake Day: To bake a chocolate cake. To decorate a chocolate cake. And, to eat a chocolate cake. Of course, if you are to busy to bake or decorate a cake, then just eating a chocolate cake will certainly do!

Searching for Answers: The Saga of Terrel Hunt and His Fight to Get His Senior Season Back (DO; Blum)

Terrel Hunt rolled out of bed in his apartment at 11 a.m. on the morning of Sept. 5, 2015. The vivid memories of the night before — one that began with him as the Syracuse starting quarterback, but finished with an injury that ended his college career — had yet to reformulate in his brain. It was a moment of ignorant bliss.

Then he planted his right foot on the ground beside his bed. In a split second of excruciating physical pain, it all came rushing back to him.

He remembered feeling numb when he collapsed at the 42-yard-line 15 hours before, knowing moments later that his season was over. He remembered the ride back to his aunt’s room at the Marriott Hotel, when he asked her the impossible question of why it was him that bad things always happened to. He thought of his future, one that might not include the one thing he knows he does best.

Hunt — feeling the pressure of a 238-pound frame on top of his foot — belted out an uncontrollable scream.

Illini Lose Another Recruit to Syracuse (chicagotribune.com; Staff)

Illinois lost its second recruit in two days to Syracuse when three-star linebacker Tim Walton of Cass Tech in Detroit committed Tuesday night to the Orange.

Joshua Black, a three-star defensive end from Machesney Park Harlem, committed to Syracuse and first-year coach Dino Babers on Monday. Both players took official visits to Syracuse last weekend.

The Illini have lost four committed players since Friday, including running back Kentrail Moran of O'Fallon, Ill., and defensive tackle Antonio Shelton of Westerville, Ohio. Shelton, who decommitted Monday, took an official visit to Penn State last weekend and also has an offer from Rutgers.

On the plus side of the ledger, Illinois has gained seven commitments since Jan. 15, bringing the Class of 2016 to 21 players one week before national signing day.

Five Early Thoughts on the SU 2016 Football Schedule (TNIAAM; Keeley)

The 2016 Syracuse Orange schedule is now official in all it's glory. A quick look around raises a few questions and generates some thoughts...

What happened to Syracuse vs. Boston College on Thanksgiving?
Alabama vs. Auburn it ain't but the budding re-rivalry between SU and BC was helped in part by being set in stone as the final game of the season on Thanksgiving weekend. That ensured that the game had a decent chance of stakes (bowl eligibility and/or seeding) and made sense as a game between two Atlantic Division school rivals.

Looking across the Thanksgiving Weekend game schedule, it looks like the league has decided to swap Syracuse vs. BC and Pittsburgh vs. Wake Forest. Sure, Pitt is also a "rival" in theory but there just isn't much excitement between us and them (for some weird reason). It's not a unforgivable sin or anything but it's strange that the ACC felt the need to change this recent tradition for no apparent reason.

No Early Bye Game!
That hole in the non-conference schedule between the Colgate game and the USF game has been scaring Orange fans ever since we realized it wasn't going to be filled by another OOC opponent. We feared the worst...that we'd get another super-early bye week that would doom us to exhaustion later on in the year. Thankfully, that spot is filled (with a solid opponent in the Dome, no less) and we end up getting our bye week when we need it most...right before the Clemson Tigers and the late-season schedule surge.

State Tower Building

Top Floors of Syracuse's Tallest Building Will Be Turned Into Apartments (PS; Moriarty)

A well known local development company plans to buy the 21-story State Tower Building, the tallest building in Syracuse since it opened in 1927, and transform its top 13 floors into apartments.

Pioneer Cos. has reached an agreement to buy the tower from Tony Fiorito for $5.4 million and spend $22.15 million to convert office space on floors 9 through 21 into 59 market-rate studio and one- and two-bedroom apartments. Floors 1 through 8 will remain office and retail space.

Fiorito put the 89-year-old building up for sale early last year.

The purchase is expected to close by late March. Mark Roney, Pioneer's chief financial officer, said the work will take 12 to 14 months. Monthly rents will range from about $750 to $1,900, he said.

The building is the latest of many downtown Syracuse commercial buildings to be converted into a mix of office, retail and residential space. Driving the trend is a combination of two things — a weakness in demand for office space and growing demand for downtown living space among empty nesters and young, urban professionals affiliated with the hospitals and schools on nearby University Hill.

Only about 45 percent of the State Tower Building's office space is occupied.

Melissa Zell, Pioneer's chief operating officer, said the renovations will include significant interior and exterior work, including the replacement of about 600 of the building's approximately 900 windows.

Shocking that our football "experts" give them 4-5 wins. It's really painful to read the reasoning of why...
Syracuse.com imported some football experts? That's about what it would take to get me to click on one of their articles.

I'm curious what people are predicting. New staff, totally new offense, not sure if the most experienced QB will be back (I think he will, but who knows?), missing 2 DEs for the first three games and having to play true freshmen and 2 guys who have never seen action, new OL (but that might be addition by subtraction). Seems like more than 4 - 5 wins is a stretch.

If Dungey is back? The offense and defense were both poor last year and we had 4 wins. I expect the offense to be a lot better...

"5. Louisville: The second half of the season is cake. The Cards get Duke on a short week after a bye (Duke plays the week before) and also have Virginia from the Coastal. However, Louisville’s first two conference games are against Florida State and at Clemson, and they come within a three-week span."

Wait, so Syracuse is no longer in the ACC? When I look at the schedules, I see that Louisville plays in the Dome on the 2nd weekend of the season. Is that not a conference game?
