We have all seen the shot many times. However, we should not forget Gillon's game tying drive to the hoop. Sandwiched in between was some great mano a mano defense to make Kennard force a shot with the shot clock running out.

Just a fantastic sequence by Gillon to save this game.

You aren't kidding. What an end to the game for the kid. Starts it off by making a terrific drive to the basket, down two. Gets bumped, no call, sinks a tough shot to tie it up.

Then he makes the best defensive stand he's made all year, not allowing a bigger guard get into the lane or get a clean look over him. Kennard forces up a tough, contested shot that misses, we rebound.

Then, after Battle unnecessarily wasted some time getting the ball out, Gillon pushes the ball in transition to get a shot at the buzzer. Triple teamed, he double clutches the shot to avoid getting blocked, and nails it at the buzzer to give us the win.

Helluva final minute.

That kind of defense by Gillon proves that he could really be disruptive in the zone if he wants to be. He was moving his feet beautifully. No reason why Gillon should be letting guys go right by him often on his side of the zone. I get that guys can shoot right over him and we must accept that. Maybe sometimes he is saving energy on that side of the ball for offense. I'm glad Howard didn't see any more time out there as well. In his limited minutes he had a couple of really bad defensive sequences and some reckless drives to the hoop. JB is and has been 100% on the money with how he has handled Gillon/Howard as well as his quotes on Gillon's value to the team.

You are right. Would also like to give him credit for staying in the game mentally. The first half he was matched up with Tatum who's probably 3 feet taller than him. Terrible match up. Looked like a JV and varsity player.

John was brilliant in the second half offensively...couldn't believe how well he did getting to the basket and didn't he break Tatums ankles on a play?

John was afforded some space up top to get his drives going north/south due to the attention paid to White. Normally, he would have been stopped before he could get in the lane, but he was finding room and doing great things once he got there. It is amazing to see this offense compared to what we saw in the beginning of the year against good defensive teams like Wisconsin and South Carolina. I think these guys would figure out how to score now.
