To date SU has 4 commits, all of whom are at least 3 stars and each had other BCS offers and in some cases a multitude of offers. Uconn has 1 commit a QB from Connecticut with very few offers.

Rutgers has 17 commits including two more it picked up yesterday.
Based on this you woudl think Rutgers was killing it on the recruiting trail, however, if you dig deeper you can see some issues. Of there 17 commits only a handful have other BCS offers and most of them have either Rutgers as there only offer or low level BCS or AAC teams ie UConn, Temple etc. Its not always about quantity at this point. The Rutgers board has been having a civil war amongst itself the past few weeks about the number of kids there offering and taking commits from with little or no other offers. It got so bad they had to delete an commit thread because posters were ripping the kid.

A lot of time left for Shafer and staff to grab some top guys, lets hope we start winning some of these battles and cashing in soon.

So, due to my outstanding math skills, I figure that leaves Rutgers with a maximum of 8 schollies left with 7 1/2 months to go. Some of those recruits SU is persuing might not have room left at RU when the time comes to commit.

Bingo, not to mention the fact that once again there getting killed in NJ, PSU and ND are cleaning up.

If they're anything like us, they'll be able to find room for about 15 more kids. I'm still kind of waiting for another 2013 commit to come out of left field.

And Michigan got the top kid, plus the other top kids are going to leave to.

The civil war is amusing, anybody who questions the latest no offer commit is being shouted down as a troll. Frankly they are legit concerns and I'd have them myself.

What is also amusing is the people justifying recruit XYZ because he has 3 stars and a 5.7 rating etc. That apparently trumps the fact the kid has no offers or an offer from Temple and Old Dominion.

I will say though, I like getting camp kids whether they have offers or not. I personally don’t want a no offer kid like Erv Phillips unless he blows the doors off at camp.

Agree 100% on camp kids but I would say if your talking about a kid under the radar or with minimal to no offers your not likely to take more then 2-3 if your a BCS fball school. 80% of the kids Rutgers currently has committed fit the mold of a camp kid, thats not a great sign. ALso as you noted the fan boys over there are trying to point to anything other then offers to shout down those questioning the recruiting. As you noted many of there commits have offers from Old Dominion, Temple, Western Michigan, etc.

Its not a huge majority but some of there fanbase is starting to question what there doing and how these classes could compete in the B10. There two commits yesterday are a perfect example, on is some lineman with basically no other offers, the other is the #1 Fb recruit in the nation according to them who has 3 total offers RU, Maryland and Western Michigan. If I was an RU fan I would have some huge concerns about this class.

i have no love for PSU or ND but if Rutgers is suffering because of them ,I gotta love'em. I know its a shock but I can't stand Rutgers or their freaking dumbass fans.

To be fair Rutgers recruiting classes the past 3 years would have all been ranked in the top half of the B10. I'm not sure what happened this year though? They seemed to offer every kid with a pulse that plays footbdll

Check last years class, it was very similar to this years class. You are thinking of there class two years ago.

Change of management. Flood seems like a good person, but I have a feeling he's in over his head. I suspect they're in for a rough season even with that AAC schedule.

I agree . It's kind of funny that a big reason for promoting him was to keep that years recruiting class intact

Are we finally seeing the effects of RU losing Schiano? Would've like to see it happen earlier but better late than never

Yep, pure inertia. Now no one with other offers wants to take on the Big 10 heavies with a question mark of a coach.

I guess the same could be said about Syracuse 2014, but i'm not picking up that vibe from the internets.

Also, look over the offers of their supposed 4 star quarterback. It's a joke.

Tough to get giddy over a fullback. Seriously you can basically plug anybody in that spot. Brian Leonard was a freak as was Rob Konrad. That kid for them ain’t either but he’s got that 3* 5.6 rating so everyone goes nutz.

Which ‘fullback’ would you rather have, the higher rated one?; all stats and offers are per both recruiting sites

6-2 235 3* 5.5 (O) Boston College, Louisville, Minnesota, Purdue, Pittsburgh, South Florida, Central Florida, Florida International

5-11 240 3* 5.6 (O) Maryland, Auburn, Western Michigan, Georgia Southern, Troy

yeah, two years ago class was marginal also. A couple of nice players but largely average.

"Its not good news. People claiming otherwise are putting their heads in the sand. If Flood lands some of these 4* guys on our radar, I will feel a lot better. As of right now, it feels a lot like the way Cuse fans defended GRob his forst few years. "

Can you link to that post? Thanks!

There class two years ago did have some good players or at least highly ranked guys like Huggins and that DE from NJ. I think Hamilton might have been in that class to. Either way last years class and this one so far dont look good at all.

LOL I found the thread, I was reading that yesterday. My favorite new line is the guy who says "Ya we just beat out Western Kentucky for another recruit"

And there was a thread yesterday about how their class was #2 in the B1G, that was until ONE COMMIT for OSU jumped them over Rutgers. The ONLY reason they are no. 2-3 in the B1G is because they have the MOST recruits right now. Let's see where they rank at the end of the year.

I think this has a lot of validity. They lost a lot of experienced recruiters when Schiano left and replaced them with guys who are probably not as adept at managing the recruiting board.

I'll never understand this board when it comes to recruiting. Stars and offers only seem to matter or they don't matter depending on whether the kid is coming here or going there. And the arguement is different depending if its us or them. And then comes the discussion of coaches judgement

Stars and opposing offers are nice to puff your chest about but that's about it. It's nice to have them but we've repeatedly watched big name/offer guys fall through and 2 star/NR guys come up big.

However, it's a lot easier to live with lightly recruited players as commits if your coaching staff has a track record of success with them. I'm not sure if that's the case or not with RU.

Rutgers appears to be doing OK. Our class can definitely match/top their class if we finish strong. It's interesting to see how well BC is doing under Steve Addazio - I'm more concerned about them than RU for Northeastern supremacy, especially with the way they're pulling this class together.
