Jason Beck Officially Promoted to OC

Rocky Long Bill.
Yeah, looked him up yesterday.

Coaching career[edit]

Long returned to New Mexico as the head football coach on December 20, 1997. His overall won-loss record was 65–69 in 11 seasons. His 65 wins are the most of any head coach in program history. Long surpassed Roy W. Johnson's mark of 41 wins during the 2005 season.

Long led the Lobos to three straight bowl games from 2003 to 2005, a first in program history. The Lobos were bowl-eligible for seven straight seasons, from 2001 to 2007, another program record. This streak continued into the 2007 season as the Lobos accepted a bid to the New Mexico Bowl, where Long garnered his bowl win with a victory over the Nevada Wolf Pack.

After an 11-season career, Long resigned on November 17, 2008, two days after the Lobos' regular game season ended. Long cited that he was not the right person to lead the program to newer heights. He added that he had no plans of retirement, and that he wanted to continue to coach as a coordinator.[3] In 2011, he was promoted to head coach at San Diego State after two seasons as their defensive coordinator.

In 2020, Long resigned from San Diego State, and Brady Hoke was named as his replacement.[4] He left San Diego State with 81 wins, second all time in wins behind Don Coryell.[5] Soon after his resignation from SDSU, the University of New Mexico announced Long would be returning to the Lobos to take over as their defensive coordinator under new coach Danny Gonzales, a former player and assistant coach under Long at UNM as well as SDSU.[6]

Isn't Rocky still with the Pirate at MSU?
Says he's still at New Mexico here.

Nick is a fine coach and knows his stuff. Smart whitty dude. The players love him. Keep in mind Dino wanted specifically the 3-3-5. He needed someone outside the circle to implement it. So I can see why Nick was passed up after Ward got fired.
The question is does he have the instincts to be a coordinator? Can he call a game with this complicated blitz package? It’s not just giving him a title, but does he have the ability to recognize what’s happening during a game and make the correct calls.

I agree. We dont know how he will do. He can do well or fail but he's been around enough to know how to run a defense in the Acc. Every position coach that landed a coordinator position took these same steps.

Aye, soon we'll know if he has the chops to be skipper, or if the crew of SyracuseFan will turn on him as just another scalawag.

Huge. Definitely absorbed the blow of Anae leaving as good as we could have. Now we just need a new offensive assistant. Do we hire a QB coach or does Beck remain the QB coach and OC? Then we hire for another position?

Really hope Dino moves fast with the DC but I want him to get it right. Need to continue the momentum on that side of the ball. Took huge steps the last 2 seasons.

Looking for QB 1’s blessing now.

He will stay OC/QB, might be best QB coach in ACC
DC might take longer then people want

Its nice that Syracuse posted it but I think the boards clear stance was nothing is truely official until Jamie says something...
They posted his comments. Do you think they made those up and just put quotation marks around it?
