Bump. He turned out to be a pretty good LB. bnoro indicated (Dayon Hayes thread) that we may be involved.

It should be noted that since DeShields enrolled at Pitt, Syracuse has made significant inroads to Millville HS, his old high school.

We recruited LeQuint Allen. We recruited Ta'Ron Haile. And we added DeShields' old HS coach Dennis Thomas to our staff.

And added an enormous number of players from surrounding high schools in NJ that DeShields would know. Along with a number of other coaches with strong NJ ties.

I don't think it is a secret that the Pitt program is in trouble. They lost or fired almost all their staff, including most or all of the coaches with ties to NJ.

So it would be a natural and logical thing for Pitt players to want out and Syracuse is the natural and logical place for someone from NJ in general and Millville specifically, to look to try and get into.

This is what happens when one school focuses on a state and another state chooses to largely abandon it.

SOLOMON DESHIELDS IN PORTAL FROM PITT
# 34 6' 3" 225

PITTSBURGH -- The Pitt Panthers lost another starting defensive player to the transfer portal this week in redshirt senior linebacker Solomon DeShields, according to Hayes Fawcett of On3 Sports.

DeShields played in 41 games over the past four seasons, including 37 over the past three, missing just two games in 2021. He mostly played as a reserve linebacker and on special teams in 2021 and 2022, but started 11 games last season at Star linebacker, missing just one start after he suffered an injury on the kickoff against Wake Forest.

He finished with 58 tackles, 27 solo, both third best on the team, and had career-highs with eight tackles against rival West Virginia and Virginia Tech. He also had eight tackles for loss, two sacks and one pass defended in 2023.
DeShields’ departure, however, was less foreseeable. The 6-foot-3, 225-pound, three-star 2020 Pitt recruit from Millville, N.J., was a solidified starter for the Panthers last season and looked to be a key piece of the defense in 2024. Although he missed playing in the Blue-Gold spring game due to injury, DeShields was expected to be a leader for the Panthers’ defense and linebackers.

It's the law of SyraPitt.

When one program is up, the other is down.

Pitts trending down and we are trending up.

Didn't they just re-up Narduzzi?

Pitt extended Narduzzi in November of 2022. He is signed now through 2030.
