lydon = pittsnogle

Someone needs to post the link of Francesca trying to say Pitsnogle's name.

I was in on this until Steph Curry went all Steph Curry. But Novak can freaking shoot the rock.

I would like to see them in a game of HORSE. I'm willing to bet the game goes on for 6 hours and fatigue plays a role on who wins.

I'm sticking with Larry Bird. Similar build and stroke. Needs to work on dribbling and passing to get to Bird-man level, though.

If you just put them in a gym and had them shoot standstill jumpers it might be close. As soon as you introduce shooting off the dribble and stuff like that; Steph would blow him away I think.

Of course off the dribble its no contest.

You are comparing a freshman to an NBA player though. You are right though, Novak is an exceptional 3 point shooter who very rarely played inside the arc even in college at his height.

Tyler played more minutes this season than Novak did at Marquette till his senior year. Novak averaged 12 points over his 4 years at Marquette and really only played the perimeter. He obviously must have been Creaned.;) Tyler has a more balanced game.

Looking forward to how Lydon's game progresses when he's playing his real position and isn't beaten up playing center each game. Tyler's already a better rebounder and instead of a pure 3 point specialist like Novak, Tyler appears to be much more capable of being a more versatile threat in college.

Tyler has really terrific foot work in the low post. He has a really nice drop-step move. It will be great to see how he plays when he's not guarded by the center.

I liked Pittsnoggle, although as someone said, yeah, fugly. But it's a rare 7 footer who can shoot the 3 successfully. Unfortunately it's also not a very highly valued skill for a 7 footer, since he's not supposed to play that far out. Lydon's shorter and will be a forward rather than a center so that's a huge difference and advantage for Lydon. He is very versatile though, having played center when we needed him to this season. Hopefully we won't need him to in the future.

Trying to test my memory here without looking on the internet. Didn't Pitsnogle go out in a blaze of glory in his final game? I seem to remember rooting for him against some better seed that I didn't like and him helping his team have a chance. I like performances like that, like Agassi's final match vs Federer where he gave it all he had, even though finally crumbling before a more powerful opponent. The upsets are more memorable, but some near upsets stick in my memory too if I was emotionally invested.

I'm going to blow people's minds and compare a white player to a black player. Much better than some of the other NBA comparisons I have seen here.

Tylor Lydon as he matures = Patrick Patterson of Kentucky, now Toronto Raptors.

Mind not blown, that's so last year. Can you do Chinese or Samoan?

not quite as tall or as physical but I see alittle Frank Kaminsky in him someday

Maybe both being white but there really isn't anything similar in their games.

Call me crazy, but I see Christian Laettner, minus being a dick of course.

Reminds me of Maryland's Jake Layman.
Except Lydon is good and Layman is trash. No, but in all seriousness Lydon has a way better inside game and shoots just as good if not better than Layman.

When i first read that i thought u said "minus a big dick of course"

I forget since he only stopped @ SU for a cup of coffee, but what was Donte Greene's game like again? Any similarity to Lydon?

donte put up 18 and 7. could've really racked up some su all-time numbers if he stuck around.

Interesting comparison. I'd say that Lydon is a much more accurate shooter, but part of that might be due to Greene being forced to shoulder more of an outside shooting role on a limited team dealing with injuries to Devo / Rautins, two upperclassmen you would have expected to shoulder the load of perimeter scoring that year.

Greene was similarly underdeveloped physically--not surprising for a frosh. Good frame, with room to fill out, just like Lydon. Both explosive athletes. Both above average rebounding potential. Both with developing low post games inhibited at each player's spot on their respective developmental curves by not being strong enough as frosh. Both poor defenders who got overwhelmed by bigger, stronger opponents inside--again due to the strength issue.

Greene gets unfairly remembered unfavorably due to that injury-racked team going to the NIT, and then for leaving after one year. And he drew ire from the fanbase for shooting indiscriminately, but it is also important to note that he was given the proverbial green [pun intended] light from the coach to shoot.

If Lydon had been miscast as Greene was into a bigger scoring role, without other complimentary shooters, I'd expect his shooting percentage from 3 to be much lower, like Greene's was.

Had Greene returned for his second year, its not hard to envision that he would / could have easily been a 22 and 9 guy, stronger, and with more back to the basket game. Possibly even developing into one of the all-time program greats. Lydon might not match that scoring wise, because the team around him is better, but I think they are similar and it is a pretty interesting comparison.

psnogg's 19 and 6 sounds acceptable to me.

Is that a career average? How was pittsnoggle at 18?

But in reality thats a red herring? The kid from byu was awesome in college too. I was talking professional ceiling. My apologies if that was unclear.

Don't forget going 4-19 from 3 in such a game. He was a useless chucker in Big East play.
