During it's heyday around 2005-2007, I think this show was as funny as any comedy that's ever been on TV during my lifetime. But after Jim and Pam got married and Michael left, it went downhill fast and I more or less stopped watching new episodes this season.

That said, I'll have to tune in tonight to see what they do for the finale.

Us too. I think they are having a reunion show as well, correct?

Speaking of funny shows, anyone watch New Girl?

Damn, I've been meaning to watch that show sometime too.

I have never been the kind of person that got into network shows, normally at night during the week I am watching sports (yankees, SU, Lacrosee, College football/basketball etc) and my fiance loves Gordon Ramsey and usually she has some show on fox (kitchen nightmares is our favorite) most of the year so we watch all of that.

That being said probably about 3 years ago we really got into the office as the shows were being syndicated and were on like from 6-7 on one of those local cable channels 6 or 7 Non HD. I thought the show was pretty funny and we loved Michael Scott. We went out and got like seasons 1-6 and really got into the characters. Oddly we never really caught up to where the current show was at the time for new episodes on NBC, and to be honest I think we have seen maybe a handful of new episodes as they were first aired. Like you we kind of got burnt out after the Jim and Pam engagement and when we did happen to catch a new episode the series had gotten so far ahead of the syndication/where we were at the time in our season collection that it was almost unwatchable because we had missed key moments/changes.

All that being said I want to see tonights final episode for sure, just hope I can recognize where the series is at, at this point.

I was thinking the same thing about watching the final episode so about a month ago I started watching it to be familiar with the characters. For the most part, it's been pretty good. Much better than a few years ago when I gave up on it. Gives me hope for a good finale.

The last two seasons have been horrible, but I have a lot of classic episodes saved on my Tivo.

Dinner Party, the Deposition, Casino Night, the Dundies, Benihana Christmas - classic episodes and as good as any television comedy (cable or network) in history.

For pure laughter, generally the cold opens are the best part of the show. Cracks me up every time the one where Jim convinces Dwight and Gabe to do a leg curling contest turns on.

My favorite all-time cold opening is when Kevin spills the chili all over himself. I almost had a heart attack the first time I saw this episode.

The wife and I thought the finale was pretty well done. I thought the Ryan and Kelly arc was pretty poor, but the rest was good. Other thoughts?

Missed the first 15 minutes because I forgot it was on and caught about 10 minutes before I went to the DVR. Looked decent from what I saw but I am not up to date on the show so a few characters we didnt have the background on. When we watch the finale I am sure the fiance is goign to get back into the show and she loves Dwight so she should like the finale.

The return of Michael in the finale was great, dropping a "that's what she said" as his very first line. The show had peaked at end of season 3 imo, I had found the Robert California season to be brutal and I gave up on this season after a couple episodes. Would have been nice to see some other characters from the past like Packer, Jan Levinson, Karen and Holly (or maybe even David Brent!), but they did the show justice last night nonetheless.

Agree that it would have been nice if they could have gotten more of the other old characters. One thing that sucks about season finales on long running shows is that they can never get all of the characters of the past on the last episode. I have seen maybe two or three new episodes the past few years and I was amazed at how much the show changed from say season 6 or even 7 when I tuned in last night. At least 2-3 characters I wasnt very familiar with.

Reminded me of when I was in college and a few of us just happened to be channel surfing having a few beers when we came across the Drew Carey series finale episode. Having watched a ton of those episodes in syndication I was happy to catch the series finale by sheer luck, but again having not actually followed the series the last few years it was still producing new episodes it was almost unrecognizable. Huge main characters were no longer with the show and the main story arch was some girl giving birth to drews kid or something, it was odd.

The one finale that did manage to do that was Seinfeld, and it was terrible.

Glad that Michael Scott's cameo was just a sidebar and didn't dominate the show. I thought it was well done. I feel like the story is resolved.

I thought it was cool that Dwight hired back Devin.

I agree with that thought for sure, but Seinfeld went way over board bringing back everybody in there brother who ever made an appearance. I dont think most office fans were looking for the show to bring back Roy, or the security guard, or Jim's old GF. I think a few of the main characters that the poster mentioned though like Jane, Packer or Holly would have been sufficient.

To clarify, they did bring back some old characters to some degree. I don't think Kelly or Ryan were part of this season. Carol made an appearance. David Wallace was not part of a few later seasons, though I believe he appeared last season and to some extent this season as well.

Thanks for clarifying, I am definitely looking forward to watching the episode, always hate when good shows finally get cancelled because inevitably a rerun will be on in a few months or I will pop in one of the seasons on DVD and get hooked again. Cant believe the show has been on as long as it has, watched a couple of episodes from season 1 a few weeks ago, Pam and Jim looked so young it made me feel old.

Good finale. The last two seasons have been really tough to get through, the show should really have ended with the departure of Michael, but last night was some solid nostalgia for sure. I need to go back and watch seasons 2-5 again, just some excellent television when The Office was at its best.

The Office is going to be a fun one to go and live through on netflix in a year or so. Being a student at the U of Scranton during the show's heyday meant the show hit that much more of a note with me. RIP.

I watched every episode of The Office, and would have been annoyed had Steve Carell not come back. It was done very well and only wished he would have done "interview" that everyone else was doing at the end. Other than that it was good.

I don't know if I have ever laughed harder than the episode at the lake when michael had the staff go through the "Olympics" to determine his successor. At the end when Andy is floating in the water in the sumo suit was just classic. I have not watched this season. I have not watched the finale yet but have it on DVR.
