THE SEMI-FINALS

CLASS AA

CNS set up their anticipated show down with CBA by handling Corcoran for the second time this season, 28-6. The Cougars hit a 59 yard first quarter bomb but were toothless thereafter. Quarterback passed for 229 yards and ran for 65 more, producing a score each way.

CBA set up a battle of alliterative undefeated teams, (both would be 9-0 but a CBA game in Buffalo was weathered out), for the tile with their second route of Baldwinsville this season, 35-7.Stevie Scott ran for 191 yards and scored 3 times.

CLASS A

Whitesboro had no trouble with old rival Carthage, winning 38-0. I don’t know if they plowed salt into the ground Carthage used to stand on but the 38 point margin was pretty convincing. Mike Cirasuolo rushed for 303 yards and 4TDs.

The expected match-up with ESM never materialized as the Spartans were defeated by 2014 state champions Indian River 42-29. The Warriors used long touchdown runs of 62, 78 and 75 yards to advance. ESM got a 62 yard pass play of their own but it wasn't enough to win a very exciting game.

CLASS B

Cazenovia continued their march to another sectional title by crushing Chittenango 37-14, (the game was 24-0 at halftime). Anthony Vecchiarelli tossed two touchdown passes and caught another.

Mexico quarterback Dante Turo rushed for 303 yards – scoring on runs of 53, 37 and 75 yards - and passed for 54 more but it wasn’t enough as Homer’s Trojans ended the Tigers season. John Horner rushed for 149 yards, three scores and a two point conversion as Homer came back from 6-15 halftime and 15-22 third quarter deficits to win 31-22.

CLASS C

In the most shocking upset of the Section II playoffs, undefeated and here-to-for dominated Canastota was rather easily defeated by Lowville 27-6 ruining the anticipated match-up with state #1 General Brown. The Lowville Red Raiders jumped out to a 20-6 first quarter lead and were never headed. The Canastota Red Raiders, (year both teams are the Red Raiders), helped seal their own fate with 7 turnovers.

General Brown ground out a 27-7 win over APW, sealed by two 4th quarter cores by Dominic Lutz.

CLASS D

Evan Gantley ran for 160 yards and two scores as Onondaga subdued Frankfort-Schuyler 24-15.

Dolgeville’s seeming unstoppable offense rolled ring over Sandy Creek 66-20. The game was 44-0 at halftime. Cole Harlow gained 156 yards and five touchdowns while Chase Doxtader added 210 yards three more TDs, dwarfing the contributions of Joe Benedict rushed for 122 yards on 14 carries and had a touchdown for Sandy Creek.

Class AA scouting report: Christian Brothers Academy vs. Cicero-North Syracuse

Comment: The game of games in Seciton III this season. I’m a CNS grad and will be rooting like I was a Cub fan for them to win but as to beating CBA: I’ll believe it when I see it.

Whitesboro 9-0 (311-83) NYSSWA #3 MaxPreps 29/2073 PS#3 titles: 8

Class A scouting report: Whitesboro vs. Indian River

Comments: Whitesboro has been the dominant team over the course of the season but Indian Rivers in recent games has really gotten their option attack going and they look much more like the team that won the state title two years ago. This should be a heck of a battle but the Whitesboro Warriors should be favored over the Indian River Warriors, just not by four touchdowns.

CLASS B

Cazenovia 8-1 (370-103) NYSSWA #12 MaxPreps 27/1911 PS#2 titles: 10
Vs.
Homer 8-1 (233-125) NYSSWA #16 MaxPreps 64/3304 PS#3 titles: 4
The two teams didn’t play during the regular season.
Cazenovia is +63 points vs. four common opponents.

Class B football: Cazenovia back to defend title against rock-steady Homer

Class B scouting report: Cazenovia vs. Homer

Comments: This is an old rivalry at this level and there have bene many great games but the defending state champion Lakers have bene on a mission since they let a game against Utica Notre Dame slip away and they will win this one. They may be on a mission in the states, too when they see the writers rank the defending champs only #12.

CLASS C

Lowville 8-1 (295-109) NYSSWA #7 MaxPreps 75/3683 PS#4 titles: 3
Vs.
General Brown 9-0 (377-110) NYSSWA #1 MaxPreps 54/3032 PS#1 titles: 6
General Brown beat Lowville 28-6 during the regular season.
General Brown is +7 points against six common opponents.

Class C football: North Country familiarity breeds respect, players say

Class C scouting report: General Brown vs. Lowville

Comments: Canastota fumbled away their chance to confront General Brown, the #1 rnaked tema in the state. Lowville is a good team, especially on defense but if the Lions take care of the football, they should take care of business against these Red Raiders.

CLASS D

Onondaga 9-0 (331-114) NYSSWA #6 MaxPreps 159/5648 PS#5 titles: 6
Vs.
Dolgeville 8-1 (430-216) NYSSWA #4 MaxPreps 141/5355 PS#6 titles: 16
The two teams did not play during the regular season.
Dolgeville is +48 points against four common opponents.

Class D football: Undefeated Onondaga meets blue-collar Dolgeville (video)

Class D scouting report: Onondaga vs. Dolgeville

Comment: Dolgeville is coming on so strong, averaging 59 points in their last three games against quality opposition, that I think even Onondaga’s defense will have trouble holding them off. Onondaga can score, too, but I don’t think it will be enough. The Blue Devils have improved in the MaxPreps ratings from the 204th best team in the state and the 6,747th best team in the nation to #141/#5355, passing 63 teams in the state and 1,392 teams in the country. I’m not sure how they figure that out but it’s an impressive run.
