Lopez was sensational as a sophomore while guiding the Blue Devils to a second straight Mid-Wach A championship, a berth in the Division 1 state tournament and five wins in their final six games to finish 6-5. The 6-foot-1, 185-pounder was 126-of-256 passing for 1,877 yards and 22 touchdowns and averaged 9.6 yards on his 67 carries while rushing for 643 yards and five TDs. Defensively, Lopez was in on 17 tackles and intercepted three passes, which he returned for 142 yards. The only sophomore captain in the Blue Devils’ storied history, Lopez’s most memorable moment of the season was playing with the seniors one final time in a 59-7 win over longtime rival Fitchburg on Thanksgiving Eve at Fenway Park. He is the son of Sharilynn Cormier of Leominster.
