Most fueled by vengeance: Syracuse
On Sunday evening, the tournament committee slaps the 11-4, ACC tournament champion Orange with the lowly eight seed. The senior class has never entered the tournament lower than a two, so eight may have come as a bit of a shock. Fast forward to Wednesday, when Athletic Director Mark Coyle surprises everyone by packing up out of nowhere and taking the same job at the University of Minnesota, like he doesn’t even care that quite possibly the greatest tournament on the planet is about to begin. This weekend features a first round matchup against Albany, not much on the vengeance side there, but if everything falls into place, the next round’s matchup could be against Maryland, one of Syracuse’s most wanted ever since Greg Catalino scraped the ice back in 2011. Sure, Catalino’s long gone, but in his place is Dylan Maltz, who transferred to Maryland from Syracuse two years ago. You’ve got some nerve, Maltz, moving home to your friends and family and a starting spot on the top-ranked team in the nation. Some nerve.
