SUNY Cortland - Final Four

What time are they coming back to Cortland tomorrow? Anybody know? Plan to make the drive down. Family friend/patient is a back up lineman on the team

Ha let’s all drive to Cortland and party! lol

My college roommate and I both had friends at Cortland, so we’d drive down a few times a semester, hit the bars there and crash, uh…somewhere. Was watching this game thinking this would have been one of our Cortland road trips for sure.

Oh wow, watched the second quarter and they couldn't stop the run game. ended up watching the first three episodes of the new season of Reacher so missed the rest of the game. Looks like they figured it out and won. Congrats to Cortland!

Just watched the first episode of Reacher. Damn good show so far.

I talked a lot of smack with all of my old Cortland friends and am getting rightfully killed for it. Oof. Cortland’s o line and qb were outstanding in the second half. Congratulations Cortland State!

D3 recruiting is mind blowing to me. I'd love a coach or former coach on here to explain how it happens and how it works to me if they wouldn't mind.
I played D3 a decade ago. Coaches come to the local high schools and chat with you. I got recruiting letters in the mail, did campus visits. They hold recruiting events on campus and overnights. Same type of stuff just way scaled back.

I got a D2 offer and had looks from some smaller FCS schools. Went to Stony Brook for a recruiting day. Wasn’t good enough to play there. D2 cant give full athletic scholarships and the academic schollies from the D3 programs basically matched anything they offered. D3 football in NY is actually really solid.

going for 2 with that much time left was dicey.. and then to run play thats a 1 option play..

I have no problem with going for two against an underdog, hoping to avoid an overtime. I do have a problem with the call, a rather simple sweep from the three.

Love reacher. great show

I appreciate all of the responses and the insight. I was recruited for D3 hoops and ultimately played juco so I'm familiar with the general process and such. I think I just framed my original post wrong. Not that it is easy for hoops but football is just another level.

A better way to put it is the talent identification and resource allocation aspect of it is crazy to me in a sport with so many players and limited resources at most schools. I'd love to read a book written by a coach who lived in D3.

Live in Cortland. Had to head down to the Dark Horse after the game. It was festive to say the least! Lots of happy drunks singing We Are the Champions. New York, New York. Great time. A lot of the students left after finals. Had they not, it would have been CRAZY. The week before, Clayton Ave was jammed packed party as the team rolled in to town late with a Fire Dept escort.

I hear many modern parents doing their best Marv Marinovich "it's only D 3" as if their child can play at that level with ease. Dedication, competition, and time commitment is severe oh and there's that thing ...talent.
What an experience for the CState players.

If Cortland State can rise up to be the kings of D3 football, which has something like 330 teams nationwide, there's no reason the Orange can't do the same thing at the FBS level. At least I believe it can be done.

Yeah D3 players are very good athletes. All these kids were the best on their HS teams save an elite kid here or there. It isn’t easy to play college sports.

also congrats to Cortland. As an IC grad it hurts to see them get one instead of us, but it’s a testament to NY football and I am friends with a ton of Cortland grads. Glad they brought it home to CNY!

its tough to win at any level.. Most kids never win league or sectional in HS, less win a state and even less win D3/D2/D1. Its why teams still celebrate bowl wins like a super bowl.. It may be the only 1 you get a shot at.

Even at other levels. When you get out of HS and you join golf/softball/bowling leagues or what ever. You can play some of those for 20-40 yrs and never win.
