Driving back from the Dome I listened to a sports radio show where they were speculating on whether the Browns and the Lions might face each other in the Super Bowl. Neither have ever played in the 'Big Game', although they faced each other in the NFL championship game four times back in the 1950's.

I challenged myself to recall how many Super Bowls featured two franchises who had never played in a Super Bowl before. I was surprised at the number. Can you come up with it?

I: Packers vs Chiefs

III: Jets vs Colts

XVI: 49ers vs Bengals

XX: Bears vs Patriots

Boom! Only 4 of 57 Super Bowls have had two franchises that had never been in it before! and none in the last 37! I find that amazing.
