- Before the game the BC play by play man told matt Park that the eagles wanted a game in the 70’s because that’s what they needed to win. They didn’t make it. But we did – all the way to the 80’s. Between the first half shooting and the second half driving, it was our best offensive game of the season.
- After the dreadful first four minutes when BC was 4 for 4 on treys, (only one was defended well), we played excellent defense, holding them to a reasonable 7 for 19 after that and shutting down everyone but their “Big Three” to 10 points on 2 for 9 shooting. That was the real difference. The players for SU other than our “big three” scored 26 points on 10 for 11 shooting. It’s been a long time since we had 5 guys in double figures.
- It was a battle of possibly the two best backcourts in the league and ours out-scored their 42-32 and had 8 assist to 6 turnovers vs. 5 and 8.
- Matthew Moyer’s injury is problematic but it actually helped us in this game. It was a game for Marek Dolejai. We didn’t need a banger. We needed a quick defender who could rebound and blocks shots as well as making creative passes. The game was spread out so Marek’s Olive Oyl-like physique didn’t matter. He responded with his best game of the season, scoring 12 points on a perfect 4 for 4 from both the field and the line. He even hit a jump shot and looked good doing it. He also had 8 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals and 1 block with no turnovers.
- Paschal Chukwu also had his best game with 14 points on 6 for 7 shooting, including a rainbow alley-oop Frank Howard threw him from almost mid-court. PC redirected the ball an arm length above the rim and there was nothing anybody could do about it.
- Frank Howard dominated the first half with 16 points on 6 for 10 shooting, including 3 treys. He only got a couple of field goals in the second half but had no turnovers in the game, (he actually had one but the Eagles who wound up with the ball had his legs out of bounds. His assist-to-turnover ratio in the last two games is 10- to 1.
- Tyus Battle let Howard carry most of the load in the first half but came on strong in the second to once again be our leading scorer with 24 points on 9 for 14 shooting.
14-6 (3-4) with 11+ to go
