What's Best Team We Ever Played in Dome?

I will also go with the Oklahoma team with Waymon Tisdale, the tipping point for me...Oklahoma's cheerleaders...Outstanding!
 
The consensus about the opponent seems to be Houston (I have no memory of that game and think of Arizona in 1995 or Georgetown in 1985 or Connecticut in 1994 or 2004 as the upper echelon of opponents).

But what's the best team -- opponent or otherwise -- to play in the Dome?

Houston? Syracuse 1986/1989/2010/2012?
 
I have to go with a team that actually won a title in that year, so I think I have to go with 84 Gtown.

For the record here is a list of champions that SU has played in the Dome era, including games played outside the Dome.

SU was a combined 5-15 in these games. One might be tempted to call that disappointing but a slate of champions is no joke.

And 3 of those were in the tourney so we had to lose if they were champions.
 
I was at the Okl. game .. almost got thrown over a railing by a drunk because I stopped to watch a Tisdale runout jam and blocked his view for 2 seconds

What a great day in the Dome that day - beating an awesome UConn team on Senior Day.

My two memories of that was Jeremy McNeil being escorted by his teammates during the Senior Day ceremony, and Craig Nasty throwing down a thunderous fast break dunk and the roof of the Dome almost coming off.

Okafor was injured and a shell of himself that game. Forth, with his killer instinct that he was famous for ;) smelled blood in the water and had arguably the best game of his career (14 pts/13 rebs).

Thanks, but the debate was whether the UNC team we played in 1983-84 was the best team we have ever played in the Dome or if it was the Houston team we beat in 1982-83. I was pointing out that Houston played UNC in the NCAA semis in 1982 and beat them, with many of the same players, but it is still just opinion, since the two of them didn't play in 83-84.

The UNC team we played in 83-84 had 5 lottery draft picks on its squad. The Houston team had just two. UNC was better in my opinion. Also Houston lost to a 9-7 (in Big East conf.) SU team, that was not one of our best and UNC whooped us.

Still, memories are memories.
 
Georgetown in the Ewing Era. They came close to winning three national titles in 4 years and probably should have.

tisdale game was the first home loss i saw in person. georgetown and houston were powerhouses.

Well, you hit the nail right on the head. I am saying that UNC 1983-84 was the best team we ever faced because they had 5 lottery pick players. We never faced another team with that level of star power.

However as you say, if we base the decision instead upon performance, the Hoya's take the cake. In 1983-84 the Hoyas won the BE league, the BE tournament and the NCAA tournament (beating Houston in the final by the way). Incredible performance. They did have 5 NBA pros on their team, but only 2 lottery picks. By comparison, my hero's, mighty UNC won their conference undefeated, but lost to Duke in the ACC tournament and was knocked off by Indiana in the regional semi-finals of the NCAA.

So based on performance, the Hoyas of 1983-84 clearly were the best we ever faced.

The Hoyas were the most intimidating defensive team I've ever seen on the college level. They would have thought this year's Kentucky team a thing or two about defense. They held that year's Kentucky team who had 7-1 Sam Bowie, 6-11 Melvin Turpin as well as Kenny Walker to 40 points on 13 for 53 shooting. Kentucky actually led at halftime, 29-22, but didn't score a single point in the first 9 minutes and 56 seconds of the second half. They were 3 for 33 in the second half.

I remember Cedric Ceballos played for the Globetrotters and it felt like he was just toying with us and playing at half-effort.

Reminds me of USC football in the mid-2000s. Probably had the best team in the country 4-5 straight years but was only able to cash in one BCS title.
