1/9/57 Jackie Robinson appears on IGAS, where Gary Moore outlines Jackie’s amazing achievements in various sports. He’s just announced his retirement and, instead of playing the game, they just have a question and answer session. If you a fan of Jackie’s, (and who isn’t?) this is a ‘must-see’.


Joe E. Brown's son Joe L. Brown had just replaced Branch Rickey as GM of the Pittsburgh Pirates and he was quite a general manager: he's given primary credit for building that organization in to one that won three world series in the 60's and 70's.

In the previous post Soupy Sales claims to have seen Jakcie play football for UCLA in 1944. In fact, as Jackie points out, he played from 1939-41. The 1939 Bruins went undefeated but with four ties, one of which was against USC:

He played basketball in high school., junior college and at UCLA but Wikipedia doesn't suggest he was exceptional:

What's interesting is that baseball was his worst sport. But he later became a baseball player, maybe because it the most popular sport and he could make a better living at it- or maybe because that made it the most important sport to integrate.
