Class of 2019 PG Dakota Leffew (GA) TRANSFERRING (SOON) TO SYRACUSE (4/24/24)

Maybe we are the highest bidder. Who knows? The real question is, have they offered enough? Will he eventually decide to come to SU without SU offering more than they can or want to? As for "moving on", it depends on what you mean by that. To me, it means telling the kid they're no longer...

Recruiting at Syracuse - I was Wrong

I'll withhold my mea culpas until someone other than the best recruiter in the history of the world does it.

Strange? Maybe you missed the "best recruiter in college football" awards that HCFB won.

    Peter Carey transferring to Siena

Not controversial to say he isn't an ACC quality player. Wiser to say that he isn't "yet". But to say that we should be startled because someone that bad played 12 minutes for us prior to when they announced McLeod's injury is drivel.

    Peter Carey transferring to Siena

I guess it's startling that we had 3 injured centers, so, yeah.

Class of 2019 PG Dakota Leffew (GA) TRANSFERRING (SOON) TO SYRACUSE (4/24/24)

Reasonable to be worried about the player. Not reasonable to think the staff hasn't/won't do due diligence.

    Caitlin Clark

There's definitely a double-standard, inside vs. outside, but this was neither a hard screen nor a moving bump.

Class of 2020 F Jyare Davis (DE) TRANSFERRING TO SYRACUSE (4/15/24)

We may have a comparable or even a larger budget and still not outbid them for this guy. I'd expect us to have the upper hand but giving Xavier a 0% chance is beyond hyperbole.

If we don’t make the tournament next yr, is Red gone?

Sorry if already asked: if we win the national championship next year, how long an extension will Red immediately get?

    Louisville Postgame Thoughts

The "played poorly" probably comes from SU having a 19 point lead late, losing half of it in the blink of an eye, and most of the rest of it, two blinks later.

    What about this rule change

Are you expecting different results than for the Big East experiment described here?

    What about this rule change

Agree with this. You could add penalties (e.g. 3 shots, 2 shots and the ball) for excessive team fouls and maybe don't even track individual fouls. One other off-topic thought, my favorite memory of the 6 OT game: Justin Thomas doing jumping jacks from his spot in the zone while the other 9...

Red Season 1 Now a Bust

OK. The original post about 10 years ago didn't warrant a response but since more than one person didn't get it: "This decade" is the 2020's. This team has the best record of any SU team in the last five years against a fairly difficult schedule. Complain about the roster if you like but if you...

Maybe you have inside info, but I felt that way about JGIII and Jesse.

    ND post game

Worse yet, it was after a play where we came up with the ball! Q wanted a travel on Shrewsbury, but he'd missed the shot and we got the rebound. Only point in yapping at the official was to let him know he'd missed a call that didn't matter.

    ND post game

Anyone close enough to hear what Bell said that set the ND coach off? Twice? The first time Red assured the coach that he'd talk to Bell, which he did during the next time out. Then it happened again. Red pulled him and gave him a good talking to (with Bell arguing back the whole time). Would...

    ND post game

Someone mentioned that we were sharing the ball well in the first half. In particular, Judah was looking for Malik A LOT off the pick and roll. He wasn't always rewarded with an assist but I'm hoping this was a turning point for him.

    ND post game

Maybe you were in the bathroom when Red made an adjustment that stopped that play COLD. He went zone and took them out of it. However, in the zone, ND either got open threes or made contested threes so he switched back out of it. He really should have found a way to get Bell some help. Several...

    ND post game

He tried to get a timeout just before the shot at the 5 second mark. The ref ignored him but the shooter might already have started his motion.

    UNC Postgame Thoughts

If we're talking about the play that temporarily took their guard out of the game, I was thinking possible ejection. It looked to me like Bell was head-hunting. I can think of no reason he would be extending both hands together at a guy's head (or anywhere) when he was dribbling in the back-court.

    UNC Postgame Thoughts

The refs missed those calls down the stretch but they called a few really bizarre fouls against UNC early in the game. This is one where I think the calls balanced out.

    Clemson Postgame Thoughts

You can make the case that this team isn't going anywhere without another shooter. The best candidate for someone developing into that is probably JT. Meanwhile, at least he's showing a little basketball IQ and hustle. You can sit him down, but if you do, he's not going to start hitting and...

Interesting. Since it got a bunch of Miniseries awards, I assumed it was over after this one season.

I think there was about 12 seconds left. Crazy play! My money is on him not wanting to get fouled.

    Louisville Postgame Thoughts

Red gave up on m2m after both Brown and JT got backed down on consecutive plays. I think before switching to zone, he should have tried a few times having those guys flop. The Louisville guys that backed them down were knocking them back with shoulder hits.

    Louisville Postgame Thoughts

That's what I was thinking. Or that they should have called a foul and Cope was going to make the FTs.

    NC State Postgame Thoughts

In a post-game thoughts thread you should be allowed to point out flaws. Maybe if this was a total feel-good win where everything clicked it would be odd to complain. It wasn't! Good teams do better. Syracuse usually has, over its history. Why can't we allow people to point that out?

    Red's Postgame Presser | Pitt

Maybe not "nearly" given away, but I had visions of a nail-biter finish when Cope and Judah kept making boneheaded plays on both ends, down the stretch.

I'm in a show hole, need suggestions

Spoiler alert (kinda): Any Outlander fans? I loved it for the first three seasons. I'm in the middle of season 4 and I've nearly smashed my tv every episode through the middle of the season! Does the writing ever recover? Even if it doesn't, I'd be ok if they would just get rid of Brianna.

    BC Postgame Thoughts

Actually, it is accomplishing the purpose. The goal (at least, per JB when he used to do it out of a base m2m) is to prevent them from inbounding to someone cutting to the basket. It has been successful at doing that. It's up to Red as to whether he thinks it's working, overall. Hard to tell...

    Observations

Bell and Taylor are very good shooters, when they're open. Against better teams, they have to force shots to get any at all. I think with Cope in the line-up, one of them might at least get some looks on shots on fast breaks caused by steals. That is, if the guy with the ball would pass it to them.

    Mintz to NBA Draft

On PnR defense, if he can't fight through the pick, he ends up just chasing his man around the pick, essentially taking himself out of the play. Every time. Aren't you supposed to switch and roll to the basket to try to get in the pick man's way? He's not the only one on SU who does this but it...

    Pitt Postgame Thoughts

Concerning Bell and Taylor, they have their limitations but two things: They should be getting lots more open looks from kick-outs. With JJ and Judah's driving ability, the openings are there but they rarely look to pass out. Kick-outs should also be available off the PnR from McLeod, but he...

    Mintz to NBA Draft

I wish he could stay here four years! He's great! I don't think anyone said they don't want him on this team. Nitpicking is what this thread is for. NBA teams will be nitpicking worse than this. Reserve your (understandable) defensiveness for another thread.
