@Stephen_Bailey1: Pretty crazy that Duke could go 11-1 with zero opponents currently in the Top 25. Shows disparity in Atlantic/Coastal Divisions.

And it’s pretty crazy that NOBODY will care. They’ll only see 11-1.

People will see that and not care until someone needs to make a point about it for some agenda or another. I'm sure SU will look at that and try to fit into the 2017 schedule to go with LSU...Oklahoma, Oregon and Ohio State to try to get people to fill the Dome.

I'm sure all the recruits be like 'blah i'm not considering duke, that 11-1 is smoke and mirrors, they didn't play anybody in the top 25".

"i'm going to consider syracuse though because they play those tough schedules, 3-9 allows me to stay home for christmas. it's not really a big deal since i got to play ND in metlife"

nobody will care about duke.

no one talks about them, no one cares.

let's not go crazy thinking that anyone will think any differently of duke.

Nobody will care until they are a threat to a bowl game for another school or the like. Right now they are considered by the pundits as a cute and cuddly team that plays in the ACC.

I know it's the Transitive Law of Football, but ...

We took them to the end of the game at their place and lost by 7. We play $U in Tally on Saturday. I think the results will give everyone a pretty good idea about how Dook will do against $U in Charlotte, assuming Dook wins the Coastal (they do have the inside track).

Based on $U going to the playoff, I'd say that Klimpson will get the Orange Bowl bid and Louavul will get slot #3.

They're ranked #22 behind 8 2-loss teams. Who you beat still matters, at least to the AP voters.

Right, that's where it shows up. The 1 loss Power 5 teams are the most popular topic in college football right now. They're all debated. Except 1. Who, as you said, sits behind 8 2-loss teams.

So in that sense they'll be "yeah, but that's just Duke"

Not to mention, the bigger part of their 11-1 isn't the cupcake OOC. It's that Coastal Division. Which we have no control over. So we can schedule 4 layups, be 8-4, feel better. But with the current cycle of college football, the Atlantic is our bigger problem. It prevents us having a special season.

I think name of school matters more than SOS as most voters have no clue who a lot of these 15-40th ranked teams even have played.

But - and this is the mother of all buts - it also provides the SOS needed to break into the playoff. If Pitt suddenly wins out - there will be a lot of scoffing due to their division. SEC west team with 1 loss jumps over easily. At least in our division, if you win out - you get more respect.

Flimsy argument, but element of truth to it.

(Also: I'd gladly switch divisions and play Pitts OOC from this season for a few years)

They should make the Coastal an audition program for everyone not named FSU or Clemson. You all get a tour there to feel better about yourself, then you have to come back to the Atlantic.

In all seriousness, Miami has looked a lot better lately. I want to see how they hold up against FSU. They might actually get 40,000 non FSU fans in the stadium for that one.

#12 Ole Miss at 7-2

#14 LSU at 7-2

#16 Oklahoma 6-2

#17 Georgia 6-2

#18 UCLA 7-2

#19 Clemson 6-2

#20 Utah 6-2

#21 Arizona 6-2

#22 DUKE 7-1

I don't think 11-1 will mean that much. Recruits don't pick their school casually. They may take a look at Duke but when they see their record, my guess is they'd jump to one of the stronger teams with more losses. I also think we would not be 7-1 if we played Duke's schedule (although we'd be better than 3-5).

they'll switch clemson and miami for us just when clemson becomes irrelevant again and miami gets back to normal
