If you're talking about Chandler Jones he was not the most talented defensive player and only played in 7 games.  While he had some good games he hardly made an impact on the defense for much of the season.  He didn't play in the rutgers game.
 
Phil Thomas might be the bigger loss.  He only played in 10 games and led the team in tackles and INTs but we're deeper at safety and the kid who started in his place when he was booted returns.  In fact Wilkes had 9 tackles against rutgers and finished 7th on the team.
 
You may not have been impressed with our linebackers but Spruill was 2nd team All Big East.  DDavis was a true freshman and Vaughan was a rookie regarding playing time.  All 3 finished in the top 5 in tackles on the team.  The 3 combined had 177 tackles and 25 tackles for loss.  3 of the 4 backups all played substantially.
 
Our secondary is just fine and has depth.  Our DLine is huge and will be just fine against your pourous and uproven line. 
 
I don't see at all how you conclude we're depending on youth/unproven players in order to be better on D.  I already pointed out that we return 8 of the top 10 tacklers on the team and 20 of 27 who recorded any tackles.  Many of whom were playing for the first time last year.
