111th in ypg

Agreed. Need more plays. We're good enough on offense to realistically believe we can score every time we touch the ball.

I think this has a lot to do with playing conservative and relying on defense in the first half. We should be playing double barrels blazing right from the word go, the offense actually looks copitient use it. Id love to see a second half YPG Stat and where we rank.

The problem is that isn't Shafer's style and if you want a coach who plays that way you need to hire an offensive coach.

Ironically the only coach in the country that I can think of that has totally changed his team philosophy as a defensive head coach is Gary Patterson at TCU. He was a defensive guy and then a few years ago hired a spread guy(Ironically the guy he hired was Justin Fuente's the now Memphis head coach) and changed the offense to a hurry up and put points on the board type of offense and just changed his thinking. Fact is the guy doesn't get enough credit for doing that. Also its not like he was losing when he changed his philosophy he just did it because he was just that smart.

I just don't see shafer doing that right now. He basically thinks he can grind out wins against teams.

The only way it's going to change is if a team with a mediocre to bad defense gets a 21-0 lead on us in the 1st quarter.

I don't see that defense remaining on our schedule.

NC State is not good.

Does it really matter if any teams left on the schedule have bad offenses or defenses? We might win another game or two but let's stop pretending because a future opponent has a bad defense we should win. This year has become as frustrating as previous years. We are never a lock to win a conference game.

How many of those yards were improvisations? This offense doesn't work well enough to win. Even with an above average QB, we're struggling.

I was responding to Chip re: a team with a not good defense.

I did not say any game was a lock. In fact I've said we would not be favored in any remaining games (maybe BC). I think we can lose (probable) or win any game left on the schedule (unlikely - but not impossible).

I'm sorry you're frustrated.

They are better than the last two teams

Yeah - how do you know that? They've played a bunch of horrible teams and got beat by the two mediocre teams.

USF and UVa got beat by all the good teams they played and beat us (a mediocre team).

55th in PPG a TD per game shy of being top 20 in PPG
Unfortunately, I suspect that number is bolstered by defensive scores and OT scores more than those things bolster the number for most other teams

NC State is not good.

You know their defense isn't good?

In their 2 ACC games, they haven't given up more than 360 yards in a game.

But they have Clemson soon, which makes all of us feel better about how bad the other team is.

Its bolstered by the Rhode Island game and ironically the end of the LSU game.

I totally agree. There is a good reason for why none of us know what the hell we are looking at. Other teams have their players master a few things and move defenders the out of the way
