is not going to cut it.

senior needs to step up or let someone else take some shots

as much crap southerland has been getting for some of his outlandish 3 point attempts..at least he hit 4 of them. he gave back about 6 on defense

This is why we lost the game. Say all you want about rebounding or whatever but the only way Uconn had a shot at the upset was if we just went stone cold all game long and that is what happened. Sometimes the shots fall and sometimes they dont.
Last night they just did not fall.

There's a lot more to it than "shots did not fall", but while we're on the topic -- it's a miracle Triche or Cooney ever make anything because they are either rushing their shot, not squared up, leaning to the side, pushing the shot, or my personal favorite - watching the ball as it leaves their hand.

Triche was off. Once he missed early that was the kiss of death because his confidence gets rattled. Cooney had that one shot where he looked towards the sky and had that weird follow through. Not sure what the hell he was doing.

We missed a lot of open looks last night.

You're right, Marsh. Some nights, you take good shots, but you just miss them. It happens.

Though true for some shots last night, many of the shots we missed weren't "good." Instead, quite a few of them were contested, hand-in-the-face jump shots, several of them off only one pass, based on one-on-one moves, and/or fading away or off-balance. Even some of the makes, such as CJ Fair's one-dribble 19-foot jumper with 10:09 left in the 1st half, were tough step-back jumpers. It's a testament to Fair that he is good enough to make that shot, but it isn't an easy shot found by the design of the offense.

A great example of missing a shot that was a bad shot (no--not Southerland's 40-footer) came at the 8:04 mark in the 1st. We ran "Shuffle." CJ caught the ball at the elbow. Carter-Williams was open coming off the shuffle cut, but Fair didn't pass to him for the easy layup (the play's first option). Instead, he refused the Baye ball screen (the second option), dribbled once, and took a contested 15-footer. This off of one pass, which makes it easy for the other team to play defense. Wide open layup opportunity missed. To his credit, Fair corrected that mistake later and hit Carter-Williams for the layup--an easy, high-percentage shot.

Unfortunately, too many of our offensive possessions end with a contested shot taken before we make the opponent defend a set of cuts and passes. This makes offense more difficult; it mainly relies on individual players' one-on-one skills rather than employing teamwork to find good shots.

One thing that has hurt our shooting is the team's lack of confidence in our centers. It seems like our centers have been open, particularly on pick and roll, but teammates don't want to pass it to them because they know that 9/10 times they won't finish. This has led to some poor shot selection.

Southerland was 44% from three last night. Nothing wrong with that. The rest of the team was 0 for 14. A lot wrong with that.

Praying!

14 /48 overall and 2/23 from three?

Where are these numbers from?

Its not a coincidence that Triche's best game of the year @Louisville was also our most impressive win. Triche's first half was the best half of basketball anybody has played even better than Southerland's performance @Arkansas. We can win at home without Triche on, but to beat decent/good teams on the road we need Triche to play better, but the kid is the biggest winner in Syracuse history so I will cut him a little slack.

We had 20 offensive rebounds and lost the rebounding battle by 1. We had more boards than they did on our missed shots and we still couldn't win.

I don't think its a matter of us not hitting shots and UConn hitting its own. UConn was generating clean and in rhythm three's all game long (and in particular the second half). They were working the ball inside and out for clean looks.

Many of our shots were of the 1 on 1 variety that were challenged to some degree.

The team that generated better field goal attempts won the game. (Note - we do not necessarily have to win that battle if we can get in transition or finish more effectively off o-boards. We also have the talent to hit contested shots better than other teams). But last night the difference was huge,

Triche is the beneficiary of being around some great talent. He's just another 4-year player when all is said and done. The elite teams in college ball cannot rely on 4-year talent in this era.

The game @ Louisville was the best game he'll ever play in this life or the next. Cards fans must be thinking he's all-world.

That is where you lose creditability. You sound like any Giants hater who says the same thing about Eli Manning. Triche isn't an NBA superstar but has averaged 8.1ppg as Fr, 11.1ppg as Soph, 9.4ppg as Jr, 14.1ppg as Sr in his four years and has been a solid contributor for four years. If we are lucky to get Triche's numbers out of our guards next year in Cooney and Gbinije I will be floored. Brandon Triche will leave Syracuse University as the player who played in more wins than player in Syracuse HISTORY, and Triche hasn't been a 10 minute a game player. He has played 22mpg as Fr, 29mpg as Soph, 23mpg as a Jr, and 33mpg as a Sr. Triche should be this team's closer not the out of control Michael Carter Williams I can't take your opinion seriously if you think he is just another four year player.

He's a solid role player. We've had plenty of 4-year role players who had a few great games and few stinkers. He doesn't have the personality or ice cold veins to be the team's leader. His confidence is too easily shattered and affects his play. To be a good, consistent shooter you can't have confidence issues. He thrives as a complementary option where he's not asked to do too much. I'm not saying he shouldn't be this team's closer -- but it's a problem because he has to be by default.

These are triche's shooting stats in his past few games.
