The ceremony commemorates the 25-year anniversary of the Orange's fifth NCAA title. Led by head coach Roy Simmons Jr., the 1993 Orange entered the tournament as the No. 3 seed, and after a first round bye, defeated Hofstra 20-8, in the Carrier Dome. SU was led by Matt Riter, who scored a career-high seven goals, and had two assists for a career-high nine points. The win against Hofstra sent the Orange to College Park, MD., its 11th-straight trip to the semifinals. Syracuse was given a shot at revenge in their semi-final matchup in a rematch of the 1992 championship against second-seeded Princeton. This time the outcome was different as the Orange downed the Tigers 15-9. Goalie Chris Surran recorded 15 saves and Mark Fietta, John Barr, Charlie Lockwood, Roy Colsey, Jamie Archer and Dom Fin each scored two goals in the victory. A 5-2 third quarter run sealed the victory for the Orange. The true chance at redemption came in the NCAA championship game against top-seeded UNC, the team that beat SU in their season opener. The contest was tied seven different times and had five lead changes. In the end however, it was the Riter for Syracuse, who had been one of the team's offensive stara all season who scored the game winning goal on a feed from Lockwood with eight seconds left in the game. The tournament MVP, Chris Surran, recorded 20 saves in the title game for Syracuse. After starting off the season 1-2, SU rallied to rattle off 11 straight wins and capping their season with the program's illustrious fifth national championship, which now boasts a record 11 national titles. The halftime ceremony is part of an initiative that honors 25th anniversaries of NCAA title teams at each lacrosse national championship. [/I] [/QUOTE]
