All I got to say is I loved the effort by our guys on their but we were completely out talented on the field. When you are +4 in the turnover margin and lose by 16 you really have a problem.
I agree the whistle costed us a TD but that was a fluke fumble by Golson. Our team was completely out-talented by ND. Estime and Reddish were the only players I think would play for ND.
This program needs a talent infusion in the worst way. We aren't a train wreck like under GRob but our program lacks talented playmakers.
Herbstreit mocked our talent in a nice way. The fact Herbie knew the plays ND were running before they did and our coaches didn't adjust to these plays was sad.
However, I loved he effort we were just beaten by a team with better players.

Phillips looked really good again. Ish made some nice catches and showed a lot of fire.

I think talent is here - it's just young.

I caught that too. Its painfully obvious that we just don't have the level of talent we need yet. I'm also not sure on McD as the OC.

Fluke fumbles don't count? I guess the ref blew the whistle because it was a fluke fumble...?

Our recruiting class last year was very good. We're already seeing some early returns on it with Erv, Ish, Franklin, and a few others. In my opinion that class is going to the be the turning point for the program. Unfortunately, as a whole, they're just not ready yet.

This year feels a lot like 2010. Hopefully we end up 8-5 when all is said and done like that year.

No doubt. We are going to need to see another good jump from Hunt, the D stiffening up like last season - and some growing up from Phillips and Ish.

Not without hope.

I actually feel a lot better after the MD and ND losses than I did after the Nova win. It just feels like the offense is on the cusp of getting it together. Maybe opening it up in the second half and having some success against a tough ND defense will help with the offense's confidence level. I get the talent disparity - it's obvious, but we have enough talent to be competitive with our peer programs in the ACC. Wake, NC St, BC, Pitt. We can beat those teams.

It is not how many stars. How many stars did Donovan McNabb have? It is whether or not they are developing past the high school level when they get to college.
Yes the other team was more talented. They are not #8 for nothing. Overall, I think we did a respectable job. Two terrible ref mistakes that cost us potentially 14 points. Yes refs make mistakes, such as the favorable spots Notre Dame got. But these two calls were not in the normal range of ref mistakes. Also the onside kick with 14 minutes to go in the 4th quarter, well lets just say I am still scratching my head on that one. We handed them half of a field. Not the time to be bold. The Dixon fake was bold and a great time to be bold even though it did not result in points. I still say we have the potential to beat these teams.

Ville is starting a freshman QB and had a tough time with Wake today. If we can grab that game.

We'd be 3-3 after 6 (assuming an FSU loss - and they didn't look great again today but prob still a loss).

Big late season pushes have been a thing around here. You're right - offense looks like it might "pop" soon.

Team played hard and was relatively composed for the bright lights. Alsacs is right. I'm currently watching Eskridge making the pick 6 on DVR and was about to write where the hell has Eskridge been all year. I think I saw him as the #5 S on Kiper's board going into this season. He's just too lean and not a real impact player. Nice pick though. The secondary has really struggled.

Yeah, not enough separation and athletes to really challenge ND. ND was playing downhill on D as Herbstreit and the others mentioned. ND seemed quite a bit bigger and faster everywhere. Their mistakes made this closer than it actually was. Oy, Whigham.

Our starting receivers, Flemming, West, and Lewis, are great kids, but they aren't anywhere near Lemon, and Sales. We at least need to get back to that level of receivers.

This staff could be a top 10 team with ND talent. Anyone expecting more is nuts. We can win a big game here and there but over the long haul no way. People forget a team like Nd gets all the players (top targets) they want, yet we went toe to toe for the most part. We can only hope to beat all the teams were equal to (like md who thumped us) , go 8-4 and convince more talent to come here.

Mcnabb was a 4 star recruit out of Chicago that we got to commit to us over Nebraska.
I am not trying to Denigrate our kids because they played hard, but our talent is not as good as most of our opponents.

I had thought McNabb was a 3 who out performed. That is what I had remembered reading over the years. Guess I was wrong?

I am not sure we will be a program that gets 4 star talent on a regular basis but I do think we are a program that shouldn't settle for anything less than a 3 star. We should be able to fill our classes with at worst 3 star talent. We are in a P5 conference and have a new IPF being built. If the staff wants to take a chance on a couple of 2 star or NR rated guys that is fine but if we have a 25 player class 22-23 should be 3 star or higher.

I like both those guys but they didn't do much yesterday. Ish had only one catch for 24. He got wide open on the far sideline - he seems to be able get open. For some reason he reminds me of Sales.

Erv had 22 on 6 rushes for 5.7 yard average and long was 8 yards. I think he has eclipsed Morris and DVM in the staff's minds.

Marrone started getting more 3 star players each recruiting year, and that has continued with Shafer. We're doing about what you described.
