Not a yards per play guy as much as a points per possession guy as I believe it is the statistic that most closely correlates to success in college football and correctly takes into account the pace of play and its effect on overall possessions/plays in a game.  Here are the numbers going back to 2005 (Grob 1st season).  The numbers below represent national ranking in Points per Possession on offense and defense as adjusted for opponent (strength of schedule) and home/away games (statistics are courtesy of cfb analytics).  Additionally, I have included the regular season record of each team for uniformity.  The three bowl years (2010, 2012 and 2013) were all wins.

It was a sad exercise looking back/remembering the past decade+ of Syracuse mediocrity and I am hopeful that this all comes to an end sooner than later.  Will be really  interesting to see how things play out through the rest of this season.  As stated previously, this offense eventually needs to score more points in order to be a consistent winner on a season to season basis.  I am hopeful and excited that they will start turning all these plays/yards into points soon and what that will look like when we get there.

An offensive explosion and win this week would do wonders toward that goal.  Go Orange!
