2012 recruit and possible new commit??

As others have said has got to be a preferred walkon. From personal experience I know they and their families sometimes conveniently overlook the difference. Good friend of mine's son was a very good HS RB in a good league here in Ohio. Parents kept telling me UC was recruiting him. The kid was good no doubt, but he was 5'8" about 155 lbs. Not exactly UC size (and as a side note smaller than my 8th grader). Never saw him on any recruiting site or signee list or anything else so I was quite surprised when his mom told me he signed with UC. Turns out, through mutual friends, I find out he's walking on as a DB. Hopefully the kid will grow some more but he's already bigger than both parents so I doubt it. Point is, walkons of all types can sometimes overstate their reality. Personally, I'd be quite proud if my son is even good enough to walkon at a D1 school.

great! another fullback catching 2 yard out patterns in the flat...may as be a long snapper...

I'm not impressed by the highlight film. He looks like a good HS d-lineman, but he certainly doesn't have the size to play that in college, nor the speed or body to be a DB. Maybe he has the skills they're looking for in a FB
I think that's exactly it. He's being brought in to block and occasionally catch a short pass/run a dive play. The hightlights don't wow you but they're not bad, either. And they clearly demonstrate a few things:

1) He's obviously very stout and strong if he's playing DT in a competitive Fla. league which is loaded w/ massive D1 quality O-linemen. Showing that he can mix it up in trenches and hold his own against bigger athletes is something that projects well to the FB position.

2) He's athletic enough to also play LB in a league probably equally flush w/ speedy D1 skill players. He shows good burst and quicks at LB blitzing into the backfield to make stops behind the LOS. That ability to quickly weave through traffic also projects well for a lead blocking FB.

3) As a fullback, he wasn't spectacular but he was a solid blocker. He easily got to the 2nd level and did what a fullback is supposed to do: clear the way for his tailback.

I mean, like or not, DM runs a pro-style offense w/ lots of I-formation sets so he needs a fullback. It's that simple so I have no problem w/ him signing (if that's actually what's happening) a stocky, bulldozer-type athlete from a Fla HS that puts out lots of D1 talent to fill the need. Keep building that pipeline, baby!

A recruiting class doesn't have to be made up of all HS superstars. Role players & specialists are needed as well.

So we turn down 3 star recruits for this no name?

When your loosing games at both lines of scrimmage its painfull.

We could use some good recruiting news. Its about the only good News Doug can bring right now.

2-3 4-5 star recruits to end the season would be awesome.

This place is great. Some kid makes a facebook post and it gives an excuse for a bunch of experts (because they have played NCAA football in dynasty mode) to attack the way the staff has managed its recruiting board.

Because recruiting a non rated fullback is stupid?

Way to prove his point... He's not rated on a recruiting site. The staff doesn't use scout to go recruit. They have a method and their own system to rate recruits.

Florida State, however, does use scout.

Just completely change my point. Recruiting an unregarded Fullback is stupid. Recruiting a fullback, at all, is stupid.

Maybe the plan is a good fullback in a single back set to just be there for pass blocking and be able to run the ball on occasion?

Unless... wait for it... stated in the thread above... they are out looking for preferred walk-ons at this point. Imagine! We might be recruiting walk-ons instead of relying on whatever warm bodies land up on campus.
