I was there and it was fun to watch! Some stray thoughts on a few players: I would day Riley O'Sullivan and Buttermore look like leading contenders to join Carlin and Lipka on the second middie line. O'Sullivan is tiny but every time I see him his speed always blows me away. His lack of size and strength makes him not much of a threat from the outside but he appears more than capable of drawing slides and victimizing a weak short stick defender, something the second line is in need of as neither Carlin or Lipka really have those things as strengths. Buttermore is bigger, stronger, and has a crazy accurate cannon of a shot. Plays a similar style to Carlin and Lipka but also showed some nice playmaking ability and IQ. However it is slightly hard to judge playmaking ability based on this game as literally everyone was playing short stick D and there were often backups in on close D, which made for a very offense heavy affair. Either way he could be a contender for a breakout season. Cook should start over Voigt and either him or Rehfuss should wear 22. I'm not a #FireDesko person but his over-reliance on seniority has cost us in recent years. He played Lane and Simmons too much even though they were clearly struggling last year, he never took Madonna out when he was having a bad game ( I liked Madonna but his 47% save percentage was the lowest of any of the relevant lacrosse schools and Porter has always looked more than capable.), he red shirted that Wisnauskas guy who then went on to put up huge numbers in his first year at MARYLAND of all places (yes I know he was supposedly "homesick" but something tells me if we put 22 on his back and at least planned on giving him minutes similar to what we gave voigt that year, he would have less of a craving for a crab cake sandwich). We cannot afford to have someone with Cook's dodging ability and work ethic on the bench. If cook gets a shortstick on him after the defense has to slide around, the other team is toast. If voigt gets a short stick on him, nothing happens and the D is glad he has the ball. Voigt is too slow and his offball finishing is great but not so insane that he needs to be on the field at all times. Furthermore I have always thought that Solomon is just as good as an offball guy himself. My ideal attack is cook dodging from the right, Rehfuss from the left and Solomon as a hybrid who can finish with the best of them and dodge when necessary. Enough of this cowardice with 22. Just watch Cook hustle and you know he would rise to the challenge. If you think that is too much rolling the dice, give it to Rehfuss, an equally committed individual who we know does well against D1 defense. I think 22 is a relatively minor issue, but it would probably be a nice boost of team pride for players and fans alike if we returned to the tradition ASAP. OK this got way too long and turned into a rant but that seems to be a part of what this board is for.
