Don't mean to jump ahead as I know we are still in a season where our goals are still alive, but I'd like to get more optimistic content on the board. A bit tired of the same will dungey play, our defense sucks, should of beaten middle tennessee, will dino leave etc.

So, I'd like to look ahead at what our starting lineups might look like next year. Here's my first initial guess:

Offense:
QB1: Eric Dungey, Sr.
QB2: Tommy Devito, R-Fr.

RB1: Dontae Strickland, Sr.
RB2: Moe Neal, Jr.

WR1: Devin Butler, Jr./Cameron Jordan
WR2: Jamal Custis, Sr.
WR3: Sharod Johnson (can he redshirt this year?)
WR4: Sean Riley/Nykeim Johnson

TE1: Ravian Pierce, Sr.
TE2: Chris Elmore, So.

LT: Cody Conway, Sr.
LG: Colin Byrne, R-Jr.
C: Airon Servais, R-So/T. Sampson, Fr.
RG: Evan Adams, R-Jr.
RT: Qaadir White, Fr.
____________________________________________________
Defense:

DE: Alton Robinson, Jr./Ryan Guthrie, Sr.
NT: McKinley Williams, Jr./Kayton Samuels R-Sr./Kenneth Ruff
DT: Chris Slayton, R-Jr./Josh Black, R-Jr.
DE: Kendall Coleman, Jr./Brandon Berry/Kingsley Jonathan

WLB: Andrew Armstrong. Jr.
MLB: Tyrell Richards, R-Fr.
SLB: Nadarius Fagan, R- Fr./Keilan Whitner - Dr.

CB: Scoop Bradshaw, Jr./Juwan Dowels
CB: Chris Frederick, R- Jr.
FS: Rodney Williams, Sr./Carl Jones
SS: Antwan Cordy, R-Jr./Evan Foster/Daivon Ellison

KO: Sterling Hofrichter
K: Sterling Hofrichter
P: Sterling Hofrichter

After looking at this -- my biggest area that I think we need to build on is Linebacker core and wide receiver core. Hopefully grab a JUCO, 5th year senior. I also think Sterling takes over all duties next year on special teams.

O-line will probably be
LT-Conway
LG-Roberts
C-Servais/Heckel
RG-Adams
RT-Heckel/Servais

I thought we had a pretty good TE RS this year and we need an uptick in the running game beyond just the oline getting better. So many runs sat could have been better if the guys could hit the holes and stay on their feet. We need one oline dude who shows some power to step it up. we dont even have a go to running play since we dont trust any of them yet.

I dont think Riley/Custis start. I think Butler is the only given in that group. It was interesting hear coach talk about playing some FR this year because they need a bigger role next year and I think N. Johnson and Pierre are those guys.

then maybe one of the FR RB/WR sees time.. our lack of a running game probably cost us 10 runs a game this year and slowed the tempo down too.

I think Davis sees some time next year.

I dont think the freshman lineman will start until after redshirt but i have been wrong before and please dont let williams start at safety. I cant remember a time sat when he was within 5 yds of slot guy. Wewill need Carl Jones there with Cordy and maybe foster as a limited safety. Not too high on him either. Every thing else looks good.

I have to disagree here only that butlerhas no hands at all. Him and the jugs machine should spend all year together. I cant watch one more drop. Killed us sat.

No way do we have a true freshman starting at RT. Especially one from the Bronx and not the south, where they play football all year long.

Agree. Sampson will be the only one with a chance(early enroll), but I wouldn't be surprised if he gets a shirt, either.

RB1 and RB2 might not be on the roster yet tbh...
If White is our starting RT we might be in trouble next year.
I don't think they will have the Hof doing both punting and field goals, punting and kick offs sure. We have a bunch of kids on PWO/WO that we will be able to find a field goal kicker.

we get a running game and we have less FGs to attempt next year.. i dont want him doing both either.

I think that Roberts will be starting on the O-Line and that Slayton may very well not return and be gone from the D-Line. You can't always plan for attrition, but there's always some negative surprise out there awaiting us. This is Syracuse after all.

I think we:

- move Moe to the slot
- start Sampson at C
- move Servias or make him #2 C
- Pierre or one of the freshman RB at #2 RB
- Outside WR is prob Custis and Butler - but I wouldn't be surprised to see a frosh or RS frosh jump in (I have 1000% faith in whoever wins the job)

If that is our starting back end we are going to give up a ton of big plays.

Yup he killed us on saturday. Kinda scary when you start to map out the 2018 lineup and the options to erv and ish and revamping the backers. Whoa, and year 3 is when we are suppposed to pop. This predicted 2018 lineup cant compete with this years.

Yes and no.
He did have 3 straight drops in the first half, which sucked - but, clearly did not "kill us", as we had a great 1st half.
While none of those was perfectly thrown, they ALL hit him in the hands.

He also 'dropped' a prayer/bomb during the 2nd half, but I don't think even Ish or Erv comes down with that one more than 1 in 10 times.

When he catches the ball, he's a solid WR - but that's been sporadic at best, and well below the % a good WR needs to haul in.

Wr1 Custis/Hendrix
Wr2 Butler/or RTB
Wr3 Sharod Johnson/Queeley
Slot Nykheim/Moe/Riley

Yeah the 3rd WR and 4th receiving target really killed us. Wake put up over 60. Relax on that

I think the RB from CA will see the field in some capacity too. Burner

The battle for the LB spots should be a donnybrook. It is concerning that all our LBs with experience are leaving but the quantity and quality of LBs that remain make me relatively confident we will be okay here.

Regarding Juan, he is a true, natural MIKE. Our first since Zaire. Played at a really good program against top competition and is an early enrollee (if I remember correctly). Had/has some really good schools interested. I don't think any of the LB positions are locked in but this is my current best guess there.

Butler and Riley have not played great to date and are vulnerable to getting beat out by younger players.

I think the Babers system favors veterans who are used to the crazy pace, conditioned mentally and physically for it, who know the playbook, the reads, can block when necessary, and can play physically and hold off aggressive corners to win 50-50 balls.

Hendrix appears to be the most talented WR Babers has recruited and he might break into the rotation early. But it is really hard for a young player, even a really talented one, to jump into this system from day one and do well.

The Johnsons are going to be really good down the road. Butler will be a lot better next year. Custis gets better each year and will be solid his senior season. RTB and Cam Jordan have high end potential too. But the jump from HS ball to the SU system is huge. I think we will all learn we have to be patient with the young kids at WR. It takes a little time for them to get ready.

See a lot of very good returning players and I would love to see some freshmen be too good for Dino not to play and not because he has to play them.

I just can't wait till the day where we get to hear Johnson & Johnson with Jordan & Jordan lined up at WR for the Orange...LOL
