totally forgot about Notre Dame swooping in there.

A few things:
-UVA in the orange is an absolute joke.
-The ACC has 4 bowl matchups vs the G5.
-Cincinnati had a really nice year and just had to play Memphis @ Memphis for the 2nd week in a row bc of the wacky g5 rules with conf championships (I get it). They went from sniffing a possible new year's bowl to playing bc in a crap bowl.they and their resume is better than that and it's a shame.
- ND, as much as I am not a fan, deserves a better bowl and opponent than ISU given their 10-2 record with a much more competirive schedule than a lot of teams in the same conversation. Think about it, UVA in the orange and ND in this crap bowl? Really?

If ND was a full member of the ACC, they would have been placed in the Orange. There is a price to pay for retaining their independence. Maybe someday they will decide it is in their best interest to join the conference.

Buncha garbage bowls.

That said, I'm jealous.

That's a great point! Ty, and a very interesting conversation. TY TCat for the post and bringing this to light. Would be an interesting study to look at NBC $$$ vs some of the bowl $$$ they have lost over the years. No contest? I speak wo truly looking at it. Happy holidays my friend.

Some other things that kid that wrote the article missed were the access ND gets to ACC bowl slots, and money from the ACC Network. If ND has a great year as an independent, they would still have access to the BCS playoffs. But what about all the years they are bowl eligible and not good enough to make the playoffs? The ACC gives them access to a wide variety of bowl games they would otherwise not have access to.

The ACC Network might only pay $3-5 million per team this year but it will pay over $10 million per season. Not NBC money but not chicken change. And the ability to watch all ND sports teams play on ACCN Extra has to be of value to the Irish, who care greatly about their Olympics sports teams.

Lastly, the ACC has great Olympic sports competition almost across the board. It is the best or second best conference in the country for men’s and women’s basketball, men’s and women’s lacrosse, men’s and women’s soccer, field hockey, baseball, men’s and women’s golf, has produced 3 of the last 6 NCs in football, etc.

If ND had to move to a conference like the Big East, it would mean a big drop off in competition and quality for the ND teams.

BC with yet another bowl game.

and still fired their coach.

There are a couple of games I would have a difficult time getting excited about even if SU was involved (Pitt-E. Michigan and Miami - La Tech). Winning would do little in terms of national perception, but E. Mich and LaTch must relish the thought of beating a P5 opponent.
The other ACC games feature some intriguing match-ups; in particular, Va Tech - Kentucky. I think BC will have their hands full with Cincy, particularly with a new or interim coach.
