12:00pm Interviews: Select Offensive Players

So cast means surgery? Orthopedics experts assemble!

In my experience, cast means a broken bone. They want it immobilized so it can heal. A walking boot is usually a soft tissue injury so they can take it on and off and do physical therapy. I think in this case, a cast is good news. Get it healed and get back on the field.

Too lazy to look it up, but did Wallace & Mikel Jones overlap at IMG or did Jones only play his senior year there?

No, not necessarily. It probably means it's less likely he had surgery. If it was stabilized surgically, they probably would've kept it in a boot. You can't check/change post op dressings with a cast.

In 2017, when Conway missed a series in the LSU game, McGloster shifted to LT and Adams moved out to RT. I'm actually surprised Adams hasn't been tried outside more frequently.
I think this lineup is telling us a few things. That Heckel missed so much time and may not be back to full strength. Also he's played virtually every position he may be that backup at almost every position including our extra blocking TE like he did when he wore 96 vs WVU in the CWB.
I think this also tells us they think Tisdale and Davis are doing a good job at Guard so let's try Evans at Tackle. Seems like Alexander is our LT for what its worth. Really only locked down position unless Servais stays at Center.

The good news is that a cast usually means six weeks' recovery. So that means he should be back by Game 4.

Maybe. While it is immobilized the muscle in that leg will atrophy and his ankle may be stiff initially. That will have to be assessed/treated before he goes back on the field and potentially suffers a different possibly worse injury.

Sounds like the staff is seriously considering these 7 players for the 5 open posityions on the OL.

Heckel
Servais
D Davis
Adams
Tisdale
Alexander
Vettorello

I bet that we see all of these players play a lot over the first 2 games.

Agree that it looks like Alexander has won one of the starting OT positions. Is the experimentation with Adams at OT driven because they are trying to find a way to get Tisdale on the field and he is better at OG, or because they are unhappy with the candidates for the second OT position now that Servais is playing C?

I think more the latter but it is very possible the staff is just trying their best players at different positions to see what works best.

At this point, I am confident Alexander, Servais and Adams are going to start. I expect D Davis is going to win the LG position. If Heckel is healthy, he will almost surely also start. If he is not able to play, I think Tisdale starts.

I think if Heckel starts, the starting lineup is

LT Alexander
LG D Davis
C Heckel
RG Adams
RT Servais

If Heckel is a no go, the starting lineup might be

LT Alexander
LG D Davis
C Servais
RG Tisdale
RT Adams

I see Vettorello as a top sub who also plays a lot. In the event Heckel can't play, he might start at OT with Adams moving back to RG and Tisdale not starting. Or who knows, maybe Tisdale starts at RT? At UCO last year, his highlights are all or almost all of him playing OT.

Babers in the past has expressed a desire to rotate his elephants. Heckel got an equal number of snaps as Roberts and Adams last year. Wonder if they're experimenting if they can do that at tackle as well this year.

Agreed. I think Dino would like to play a lot of players at a lot of positions to build depth.

I think there are 7 guys capable of solid play on the OL and yes, I think the hope is to play all of them.

A lot.

This close to the season it tells me they are unsettled. They want to move Serv outside but the other kid is 80% and doesn't handle assignments well and puts the ball on the deck. I hope they leave Serva at Center as in this O it is the most important offensive line position.
