Does this make sense on any level? Why would a school have to nominate?

Woody Newton was listed on the form, but his name was crossed out purposefully with a single bold stroke to show him what he could have been.

There are a lot of teams and players to pay attention to. It's much easier to just vote based on whether you recognize the name or not.
The 2020-21 All-ACC Team was determined by a 75-member panel consisting of the league’s 15 head coaches and 60 members of the media
The idea though Buddy Boeheim wasn’t eligible for all-conference teams is insane to believe.
I bet schools nominate for the awards but the media fills in who they believe should make the teams.
Duke had 4 players honored 2 years ago.

They did a terrible job. Carlik Jones first team? Jay Huff got screwed. I’m a huge Moses Wright fan, but I think Huff should have been POY.

The rationale is that letting a school nominate one player for an individual award prevents the voters from splitting their votes among multiple players from one school, which might lead to a less deserving player from another school winning the award.
This way when Duke drops four huge bags to reel in a bunch of freshmen studs, they can make sure the guys who got smaller bags don’t win the FOY award over the guy who got the biggest bag.
Not saying I agree with it, but I imagine that’s the reason.
