Two trends that impact team sports: players get bigger and faster while the field stays the same size and thus effectively shrinks as the player's capabilities increase. Also, coaches become more conservative and predictable until somebody comes along who thinks outside the box. Most sports respond to this by changing the rules to open the game up to more offense. (Soccer does not, which is why many Americans have little patience for it.) Is it time for another round of rule changes in football to loosen things up? Or do we just need some new blood in the coaching ranks?
