I have some takes on RJ.  I do think Toronto may have preferred him vs draft capital in part due to the Canadian angle, which isnt the best way to make trades.

RJ is kind of a frustrating player, he has the pedigree (#3 pick, Duke, highly ranked HS player, decent scoring average etc) so you sort of keep waiting for him to become really good, but I just don't see it.  I couldnt really tell you what he's good at.  He's kinda just meh across the board.  The one skill he has is he is pretty good at generating shots at the rim, but he's not very good at making them. (I see he's doing very well at that so far, I remain skeptical that will carry).  The one positive argument you can make is that with the Knicks he was always dealing with a 5 who was near the basket as well as Randle, who did a look of work near the basket, so maybe the paint will be open a little more.  Usually he has these stretches where he plays well and his fans start thinking he's turned the corner only for him to regress back to the same player he's always been.

I dont think the contract is awful, the cap is going up so its not like a huge burden. I dont think it's great either though.
