Goaltending issues are getting all the focus, but the problems are more widespread than that.  Ruff had similar issues with lack of defensive focus in Dallas, and it was a huge problem this year.  The forwards have never been strong defensively, but so many times this year I couldn’t even figure out what they thought they were doing as opposing players skated freely through the slot.  I think Ruff tried to instill some defensive focus by benching Holtz for long stretches for defensive lapses - but that’s not going to work when Jack Hughes is also a problem that’s not being addressed…I suspect that started creating major team chemistry issues as well.

I think this is too little, too late for this year - Fitz needed to make a coaching change about six weeks ago, then make a move on a goaltender if they started to show signs of life.  As I commented earlier, it was so obvious the wheels came off completely vs the Kings he had no choice but to make this move today, and not addressing the goaltending is part of the problem which is on Fitz - but Ruff ultimately got fired because his defensive system is atrocious.
